also use shrink for ripping and decoding and Nero for burning .
iff shrink encounters a rare problem ripping the use dvd decripter .
all guides are available at this site .

dont feel bad about the wrong choice of media coochie.i have over a 100 tdk's that i found out werent good after i found this forum.
even if they work now there is a thing called laser rot(im not kidding)your discs may not work in the near future

i dont think that anydvd causes conflicts but roxio does, with most burning apps.
do you see any roxio stuff? (if so,slay the demon roxio)

oops, forgot about your other question. AnyCD should not cause problems as long as it wasn't running at the time...however, any Roxio (by Ahead Software) software (like easy cd creator)installed can very well cause problems. Have a good look at your program menu and make sure there is no Roxio or Ahead entries. And while your looking around, see if there is anything else you don't really need or use much. You need to free up some more space if you can. Then you really should defrag your hard drive before trying another DVD backup.
It's too early to say for sure if the problem was cheap media, but you can rule that out if you don't USE cheap media. It could very well be a lack of resource problem. You are pushing your system to the limit, for sure. As woof811 said, AT LEAST 256MB of memory is recommended for this job.
