Ok heres what you do you take your vcd's put them in your cd drive and go into the file called mpegav file their should be files called AVSEQ01.DAT AVSEQ02.DAT etc make a folder on your desktop and call it mpeg files and copy and paste them in that folder once your done collecting all your mpeg files, I think you can fit approxtmaitly 6 vcds on one dvd. So do your own judgement on this. Now its time to convert it to dvd. Use TMPGEnc its one of the best converters! Then you Use tmpegenc converter gadgets to convert the audio and video into seperate files, Why are you doing this you may ask because you need to change the audio file to dvd standards, then when you are done with that use The wizard for TMPGEnc and choose Dvd author and put in the video file and the newly converted audio file and convert it

his is Simple and it can be done without re-encodeing the Video.....
All you need to do is first Rip the "AVSEQ01.DAT" file off of the VCD and then rename the File to a file with a ".mpg" extention.....
Then you can use Tmpgenc"s "Mpeg Tools" to "De-Multiplex" the .mpg file into seperate audio and Video files....
Then you use TMPGEnc to convert the Audio file to an audio file at 48000hz.....
After the Audio has been converted to 48000hz you just use a DVD authoring program like "Tmpgenc DVD author" to author the Mpeg Video and Mpeg audio files to DVD......

Easy as Pie....Cheers
This is not necessary at all. I just used TMPEnc to create and output folder with VIDEO_TS file inside and directly from the dat file burn the dat file as it was to a disc. I wasted a lot of time splitting the video and the sound files and converting the sound file to 48000. At 48000 there is no sound at all. I burned the DVD to disc using TMPGEnc Author and it plays on the computer and a stand-alone DVD player with good sound and image.

Tmpgenc DVD author Does the Audio Resampleing for you when formating the Files to the Video_TS Folder but It also decompressed the audio to LPCM which take up a Lot of Room...No DVD authoring Program will Make a DVD with 44100hz audio because it is not DVD Compliant....

You can get at least 6 hours on a DVD useing the SIF DVD Standard....
If you encode your source files to Mpeg 1 (or Mpeg 2 is even better) at 352+240 NTSC or 352+288 for PAL and use a Video bitrate of 1500kbs and an audio bitrate of 192kbs at 48000hz then you will be able to exactly fit 6 hours on a DVD...
I personally wouldn"t want to put 9 hours on a DVD because the Quality would be pretty low but at 6 hours on a DVD the quality will be Better than VCD quality....
If you need any more help let me know...Cheers

Well CinemaCraft Encoder Basic will overlay a logo over the Video when in Demo mode but it only costs $58, and CinemaCraft Encoder SP will also overlay a Logo or watermark over the Video in Demo mode and the Full version costs $2000 plus these encoders do not have a Resize filter so you can resize the Resolution to 352+240/288-PAL so you would have to use a Frameserver to resive the resolution which is a bit complicated if you have never done it before...
You can simply use TMPGEnc ,It is a Lot slower but the quality is good...
Set it up to encode your File to Mpeg2 at 352+240 NTSC 352+288 For PAL and set the audio format to Mpeg1 Layer 2 at 192kbs at 48000hz and set the Video bitrate to 1500kbs and set the "Motion Search precition" to "High Quality" and this will allow you to get just about exactly 6 hours on a Single DVD or anywere from 3 long 2 hour movies or 4 short 90 minute movies...
The encodeing should be about 3 or 4 times as fast as when encodeing to the standard DVD Resolution....

Cheers

Or you can just use DVD Shrink, set it on automatic and it commpresses about 60 percent.

You can use 44100hz audio but the DVD Authoring Program will resample it before authoring to DVD so in Reality you aren"t makeing a DVD with 44100hz audio....

And you can"t use DVD Shrink to encode Files to the Sif DVD Format because DVD Shrink doesn"t have a resize filter and you can"t put 6 hours on a DVD useing the Standard DVD Resolution with any sort of Quality ...

Yes, I realized that when I did some reading but I can't get any sound that way. I posted the below on another after dawn thread "Common TMPGENc Problems" but no replies as yet.

22 June 2004 15:18 I am using TMPGEnc Plus 2.5. I am using toolame.exe and ssrc as external tools in the enviromental settings. When I go to recode the audio file (mp2)I browse for the audio source when I get the mpg.mp2 file to show up in the output window I click "load" and I click DVD (NTSC).mcf. I open that file and select ES (Audio) only The audio file is greyed out and locked to 48000. When I finish re-encoding the audio file. I burn it to DVD using DVD Author. When I play it back using Nero video player or My Emerson Combo DVD VCR there is no sound.

If I just bypass the file separation and load the dat files directly into DVD author from the VCD files the sound is perfect on both players. I am able to get 9 45 minute tv shows on one DVD+RW ( I am using RW for testing) so I dont notice any problems from lack of compression. I don't see what the advantage is from going through all these extra steps when I can just author a DVD by just using TMPGEnc Author from the dat files without separating and recoding them (DVD Author does the recoding.)

Now perhaps the TMPGENc Author automatically compresses the files, I don't know I just know that it works. Other people have had the sound problem with TMPGENc but I have not been able to solve the sound problem when burning files that have been split.

My vcd's appear to be the wrong resolution, but they play fine in my dvd player... It just won't let me convert to VIDEO_TS folder in TMPGEnc DVD Author because it says the resolution is not correct.

You would have to Demux your VCD and then load the audio into an audio editing Program and then take the Chanell you want to keep and convert it into a psudo-Sterio Audio file at 48000hz and then author that audio file with the VCD Video file to DVD...It"s Pretty simple....

I find either "Sound Forge" or "Goldwave" are good for this type of stuff, especially Sound forge because it has a More Visual Interface were you can see the Audio"s waveform on the Screen so if for instance you wanted to keep the Right Chanell you would simply Delete the Left Chanell and then copy and paste the Right chanell into the Left chanell and then save the file....

good luck

You Can"t stop the Blockyness that is why you should NEVER re-Encode VCD"s to DVD to make a DVD...
Keep the VCD the way it is and Just resample the VCD"s audio to 48000hz and then author the VCD to DVD....

Re-encodeing a Low resolution VCD file to a High Resolution Standard DVD File will totally ruin any quality the VCD has in the First Place and there is no need to re-encode because VCD"s are allready 100% DVD compliant accept for the audio which needs to be resampled to 48000hz....

To resample the Audio in the VCD/Mpeg1 file you first have to Demux the audio from the Mpeg1 file...
To do this you run TMPGEnc and go to "File" to "Mpeg tools" to "Simple De-Multiplex" and Load the VCD/Mpeg1 file into it and click "Run" and in a few minutes you will have a M1V Video file and a Mpa or Mp2 audio file...

Now take the Mpa/mp2 audio file and load it into TMPGEnc as the Audio source and on the right bottom choose "ES(Audio Only)" ...Now click the "Settings" button and the audio settings screen should pop up...
In the audio settings choose "Mpeg1 Layer 2" as the "Stream Type" and choose "48000hz" as the Sampleing Frequency" and select "Sterio" as the "Chanell Mode" and then select "384kbs" as the "bitrate" and Put a check marke next to "Error Protection" and then click "OK" at the Bottom and then click "Start" at the top left and in a few minutes you will have a New Mpa or Mp2 audio file...
Now just load this new audio file and the M1V video file into your DVD Authoring program and add your Menu"s and Chapters and Burn your DVD...You should be able to put anywere from 3 to 5 movies on a single DVD when putting VCD"s on a DVD so you should wait till you have enough VCD"s to fill a DVD.....Cheers
