Biography details Steve Jobs' anger over Android

article published on 21 October, 2011

A biography of Steve Jobs, set to go on sale Monday, goes into detail about his near obsession with Android. Walter Isaacson worked on the book for more than 2 years, interviewing Jobs multiple times, as well as numerous friends, family members, colleagues, and competitors of the visionary, and sometimes abrasive, Apple co-founder. According to an AP article on the book, it paints ... [ read the full article ]

Now, I never said he wasn't a baby and a prick. He was both of those BIG TIME! Yes and he didn't like it when someone improved his product as he had done to others.

I still believe the world ows him a debt of gratitude, not that he didn't get his pound of flesh.

Imagine a world where there're only Apple, iphone, ipad, no Google, no Android, no open source. Jobs and Apple of course want a monopoly. They make good products. But without competition, how fast do their products get better? Definitely not like now. I think copycats are great. Apple's competition don't just copy. At the end of the day, consumers get the benefit. Personally, lack of choice is my biggest issue against a monopolistic market. Apple fan boys think Apple's way is THE way. When I got fed up with Apple's way of syncing my music on my iphone, I switched to an Android phone. Apple's way sucks for some people.

I'm really sicked and tired of Apple suing everybody for copying them. What wrong with copying ideas? Apple doesn't copy? Did Apple invent smart phone? Did Apple invent tablet? How do you draw the line? I'd say form, function, UI should be all copyable. They are only so many ways to do certain things. A car has to have 4 wheels for example. How can we let anybody patent that form? If only Apple can have swipe to scroll, how else other products implement scroll? Put a freaking scroll wheel on the phone? That practically gives Apple the monopoly even if they created the idea of swipe to scroll (I don't know if they did. Just an example).

I'd say all these patent lawsuits are BS. Samsung, HTC, etc are not putting "Apple" logo on their products. Lexus looks like Mercedes or it doesn't? How can any court decide something looks too much like the other. As long as it doesn't bear the same logo, let the products compete on their own virtues. Users are not stupid if they bought the wrong company's product. This is not counterfeiting we are talking about. Let competition flourish. Ideas are a dime a dozen. Don't let who made it to the patent office decide the fate of products get made and sold.

Steve Jobs was a dick I've always hated him and will always hate him. I respect him for being as bright as he and for his aptitude at making money. But this man was no where the Genius of Dennis Ritchie. DMR was man WORTH remembering and deserves a proper show of respect. Not completely forgotten under the shadow of the Death of the biggest Con-Artist and Hypocrite of the century.

RIP DMR
I have to agree with you. Unfortunately, Jobs gets honored because the changes he made were readily apparent to the average Joe or Jane. While Ritchie made a much more comprehensive contribution, it's not well understood by most people, so he is not given the recognition he deserves.

Another example is how many people would honor Vinton Cerf. As we all know, he is the co-designer/author/inventor of the TCP/IP protocol. Without this protocol, the Internet would not be possible. Very important, yet many people have no idea who he is.

Oh, he was only the engineer who designed the Apple prototypes. Guess Woz doesn't have the charisma of a Steve Jobs. Because you know, marketing skills and charisma is what it what it takes to be a great design engineer.

It's interesting how Jobs was quick to complain when about Apple's products be

I guess when you consider everything else, the one thing Jobs mastered was being a bigger dick then everyone else.
