Now you're being likened to Socrates in Freudian slips. Seems you're going to get that title, one way or another.

Hi brobear,
taking a cue from one of the posts, I emailed 321 support with my license number from dvdexpress (I have the ripper version of dvdxcopy, too, which still seems to work, but apparently I didn't qualify to be upgraded to Platinum, so although the older version still seems to work, it produces two disks instead of shrinking to one. Forget the version numerals. And not important here, I guess.) Anyway, 321 emailed me back promptly with a new license number to use for a download of Xpress RF. Downloaded it, executed 321ripper, and the thing works beautifully once again. The older version is still sitting in my harddrive, but as long as the tweeked-RF version continues to function, there is no real incentive to delve much deeper into it.
At least this process introduced me to afterdawn and the great help and support available from you people here, which makes the experience more than worthwhile.
Thanks again for the help and I'll be dropping in from time to time to see what else might be going on in the frustrating world of dvd software issues. Thanks.
Oh, by the way, if anyone is interested, one of my attempted solutions to this problem was downloading the Redxpress program, recommended for backing up TV episodes in a recent PC Magazine article. It's a british company, so the 321 ruling doesn't effect them. However, the program didn't perform well for me. Always, always, failed on the 2nd disk. (It breaks TV episode disks into two.) At first, their support team was attentive and offered suggestions. As those suggestions failed, I tended to hear less from them, and now I get no response to my email queries at all.
So, I'm still looking for that perfect program that makes backing up my TV collection simple.
Hope this wasn't too long.
Or an inappropriate thread to post to.
Either way, thanks again for the help.

Hi
I got a problem with DVDx 2.2 and wondering if any one can help me
My system spec is
AMD Athlon 64 3400+
Gigabyte GA-K8NSNXP Mainboard
1GB GEIL PC3200 Platinum DDR RAM
40GB Samsung SP0411N HDD
2x83GB IC35L080AVVA07-0 HDD
80GB Maxtor 6Y080L0 HDD
2x200GB Maxtor 6Y200M0 HDD
ATI Radeon 9800 256MB
When loading IFO file for DVDx 2.2, after altering the input settings, the program causes a program exception and needs to be closed.
I dont know if the program was designed for AMD 64 bit processors, if not, is there any possibility someone knows of a patch that may have been made for the AMD 64 bit processor?
Grateful for any help you can provide

What burning software do you also have installed on your computer. If you have any version Of Nero 6X then
try this and see what happens. Download DVD Shrink , open it and choose edit, the preferences, File/IO, and at the bottom check eanble burning with Nero. Now go to the guide through the URL below and follow it completely step by step. We will know if its a problem with you software. The download I suggested is compltely free and without spyware of anykind.

Partially appropriate, which is good enough most of the time. All thanks appreciated.
When using Xcopy you make title selections. To the right is a box for USE COMPRESSION. When checked it uses compression to place the transcoded files on one disk. When unchecked it goes into splitting mode. Could that possibly be the problem, not having USE COMPRESSION checked?
You know you have a looser when tech support starts avoiding you. Good luck and check back and let us know whats happening occasionally. BTW, if you don't mention those probs, we can't help. Didn't know you were having a splitting problem.
Sophocles,
Good plan of action to suggest trying another program to isolate the suspect software. And using a no cost option makes it painless. When using Nero, I always suggest not opening the InCD as it causes problems with recording software. It's included in the 321 bulletin to delete that particular part of the software when present. I know, it's posted earlier in the thread; sometimes newbies don't read the whole thing (guess I repeat myself a lot).

Hey brobear
When using Nero, I always suggest not opening the InCD as it causes problems with recording software.. You can extend that to all packet writing software because almost every major burninng suite has one.
Hmmm! Just say no to Packet writing software.

Probably a good idea with a few provisos. Turn it off if it can be. Eliminate it if it runs in the background continuously, as does the InCD. The programs in the well known Roxio suite can usually just be turned off. The operative word being usually. I hear some folks have to do away with Drag to Disk in Roxio.

Do away with Roxio altogether unless it is the reigning burning software supreme method of your burning world.

Roxio isn't the reigning supreme burner program of my world. It is handy for burning audio CDs and I like Drag to Disk for data disks, CD and DVD. Plus I like the movie and music players. The DVD player is similar to the WinDVD5 and 6 (just used the DVDMax for a longer time and just comfortable with it, like and old pair of jeans). So, knowing how to live with the quirks of the software, I leave it on the system. It's worth manually turning off the Roxio suite to keep the programs I like.
As we both know, this doesn't work for all. Some folks have to make the choice of which program they want to keep.

AnyDVD & NERO6 WITH Nero Recode works Perfect. Nero keeps updating their software every month & the update is free. Just go to Nero site every month & check for Nero 6 update & down the first 2 update.
Update-Package 1

Current version: 6.3.1.17Release date: July 02nd, 2004 Filesize: 26.85 MB (28162165 bytes

Current version: 2.1.2.16Release date: July 02nd, 2004 Filesize: 22.91 MB (24025030 bytes)
You half to buy AnyDVD software, it is well worth it. They will keep updating there to you free. You will get a message on your desktop telling you they have an upgrade for you. I have all of 321 Studios software. I had taken all of it of my computers. I use Nero Recode 2 only. Never made a bad DVD with these two software. They are the best, been using them since 321 studios lost their case in court.

Thought this thread had died.
Thanks for the info Ajax. A newbie might come along and see the Nero info and find it useful. However it is posted more appropriately elsewhere. Why put that on this thread, anydvd/dvdxcopy xpress? And it's already been stated, AnyDVD is retail. Just so everyone knows, the July '04 download of Nero is full of bugs where the Recode is concerned. One shouldn't download it until they get it fixed. I and several others made the mistake and it messed up. I misplaced my disc and now have to wait for the new version.

Is it possible you got a bad download from Nero? I and several of my friends download Nero6 July2 upgrade & have no problem with the update.
My friend next door made over 50 DVD movies with upgrade & never had a bad copy. Myself I made about 25 & all came out great. My other friends have no problem all of their copy came out great. I have been using Nero software for around 2 years.

I'm not sure exactly when the latest update occurred. Someone mentioned version 6.3.1.7, not sure about the number. However, had it been only me, I would have said yes and redownloaded. For me that is only a matter of minutes with T1 DSL.
The problem is experienced by a lot of users with the Recode. I didn't try the burning ROM with Shrink after the download. I only did the download the other day. Call me stupid as I was warned. Any one who doesn't believe this, download the Nero suite and try the Recode. Word is that Nero is aware and fixes are on the way.

Thanks for getting back to me on this. You are right about Content of Update-Package Nero 6 Ultra Edition Package 1 that package does have bugs in it. As of yet I have found no bugs in package 2, which has Nero Recode 2. Nero Recode & AnyDVD 3.9.2.1. Nero Recode is great software it give you all kinds of options for your movies. Nero Recode & AnyDVD 3.9.2.1 beat the living heck out 321 Studios products. Nero Recode makes Great, Great, Great, Movies, and I HAVE NOT AS YET SEEN BETTER MOVIES BY ANY OTHER SOFTWARE. And you are right Nero will fix their software, Nero is a good company.

No doubt, Nero has a good rep and a huge market share. Glad you're not experiencing problems. Not everyone or even the majority does. Just a lot of us.
I've used 321 and Nero, both with good results. 321 got nailed by Big Brother, so their support is a bit lacking on the older software. The picture quality for both is good. Editing with 321 can be a trick at first for those not understanding the chapter setup. I still have both programs and like them both. I went back to a prior copy of Nero and the problem seems to be solved for now.
For better quality try DVDCopy2 for new movies. Discs have to be in good condition to. Doesn't like old stuff. Then there is CCE and with Rebuilder it is easy once set up. No one questions the superior quality of either of these that have seen it.
You can set up a trial using the trialware with both programs. Give it a try and then tell us you haven't seen better.
As of August 1, 321 Studios is Kaput. They have limited support and activation online. Check their website.

interesting thread here. I bought DVDXCopy gold about a year and a half ago, and have never gotten XPRESS to work. It has burned, but havn't found one player, including on the pc or home units, that will play them, so I gave up.
I called 321 4 times and they never helped me solve the problem. But I did pay 100.00 for this software, only to have half of it useless.
