I invented my nick back in 1990 or so when I got into demoscene (Amiga) and at that time my imagination was at the average level of a typical 14-year-old and world was full of "Dr. <whatever>" nicks, like Dr. Awesome (guy that everybody knows if you know anything about old skool scene), etc. So, I chose "Dr. Darkness".
Got into BBS scene around 1991 and in various systems, like old AmiExpress versions, the full nick didn't fit into nick field and I got a problem there. Also, over the years it got twisted into forms of "Dr. Dickless" and various other amusing forms :-) So, eventually it evolved into "DrD". And if anyone of you was in Amiga BBS scene back in those times, CooL WRiTiNG Wa$ VeRy iMP0RTaNT BaCK TH3N.. So, it evolved into dRD. Did some trading as a courier with joined account with my friend under nick dRD^AlH as well.. Since that, it has been the same and it doesn't mean the "dr. darkness" anymore, but simply just dRD.

Interesting, dRD. Yours was among some of the nicks that I had absolutely no idea what the story was :)

I wonder if there other Dr. Darkness, back then. I can remember my older brother talk to people like that. He if any one rembers the really old days was Lasslo or Hallifeild (sp?) taken from the classic film Real Genius. Usually something in that form. Interesting to know you were one of the early BBS ers.
L33t was a very odd langue, takes me some time to get used to it.

Prisoner: I don't remember other Dr. Darknesses back then, although I do remember other Dr. D* guys who used dRD acronym back then as well.
I used to run my own "ELiTE BBS" back in 1991 - 1995, so I've sorta been in this "webmaster" biz quite a long time now (although back then the term was sysop..). And yes, Ketola was my co-sysop even back then :-) By using certain keywords, you can find some interesting ascii stuff from Google ;-)
I was active mostly in Finnish BBS scene, but had accounts in most biggest American and European Amiga scene boxes as well. Danse Macabre, Ice Station Zebra, Guru Meditation, ... old names that still have certain "special" ring in them in my mind.
But I'm an old fart anyway, I still consider Amiga to be greatest personal computer ever invented and if the always-rumored "Amiga comeback" actually materializes one day (in form of new, publicly available OS and affordable hardware) I'll be one of the first ones to buy the system..

Back in probably '86 or '87, after eating lunch at work I became busy and just stuck the fork that I was eating with in my shirt pocket. I forgot it was there and went home with it. The next day I was bringing it back, still in the shirt pocket (different shirt, of course) and when I stepped off of the employee shuttle bus in front of the airport terminal building I slipped on ice on the sidewalk. I landed flat on my back on the sidewalk with my head inside the bus. The fork went flying. I scrambled to get the fork-I figured that everyone seeing me thought that I was carrying the fork in case I saw something to eat. The next day I told the story to a nephew of mine and he exclaimed "Forkindave!". It's stayed with me ever since. I modified it to "forkndave" and I use it whenever I need a nic.

My nick "geestar20" comes from many things, my first and last initials start with a G and so people at work and homies -er- friends call me "gee" (not meening gangsta but ill get to that) the "star" comes from people also calling me "geester" and so.. it became "geestar" the "20" comes from my neighborhood I grew up with which was on 20st and Villa (in the Duppa Villa Projects)in Phoenix AZ, and so my nick is "geestar20"

I come from the Toilet. I was raised in the oceans. My father came from the Bermuda Triangle, my mother from the glamarous wonderful sewage city. You cannot escape me. I will always be lurking in the dark, flushing.. dripping, menacing. I'll even be around when you shut that door and bolt it up, in case anyone tried to come in. After all, everyone has a toilet in their house.
Everyone is entitled to their own true opinion. Either respect that or don't.

Ok, I'm bored. Kinda stuck to me from my years working in the grocery business stocking frozen foods. I made a comment one day to a guy telling him that it didn't really take a lot of brains to put a bag of ice on a shelf that a gorilla could do it. Icemonkey just fits better into a sound bite ;)

Ya my older brother, who would be your age or a year older, was either Lazloo H or Slaughty bartfast. Depended on the site. I hear there might be a new Amiga OS coming soon. Amazing really.
Toiletman, reading that reminded me of Reboot the Tv show. But being a Prisoner of the media, I do know a lot of tv shows.

I take it that you're being sarcastic now? I can't believe that there's a human walking on this Earth who hasn't read the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy (trilogy in six parts..).

Well it did take us about a month to guess one quote from the series. I have read all 5 books, but it does fad in and out ever once and while. I would have love to heard the original Radio broadcast.
But sorry, I know that was off topic.

Considring most americans won't have a clue what I am banging on about.

I guess I'll take my turn since I started this :)
The short and sweet is the Nephilim were a Biblical race of giants who were estimated to be nine feet tall and were fearsome warriors. There are several theories as to where they came from, the most prominent being that they were born of a union between "the sons of God and daughters of men". It's been said that Goliath was a decendant of the Nephilim. There's not much reference to them in the Bible.
Anyone who's read any of my posts concerning organized religion knows I've no use for it but the weird and obscure things in the Bible really fascinate me. Plus one of my favorite bands is "Fields of the Nephilim" :)
I had a clue in my old sig:
"And there we saw the giants ... And we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight." Numbers 13:33

I have used this nick since the old Atari BBS days. I got my first modem in 1984 and I used the nick Xian when I logged on to a local BBS and have used it ever since. I had just seen an exhibit of the terracotta warriors from Xian, China around that time and that was probably in the back of my head. 10 years later in 1994 I had been living in Costa Rica for a couple years and I was dating a Latina named Xinia and she told me that Xian could also mean Sean in Brazilian Portuguese. I came back to the US that year and logged on to IRC for the first time and used Xian as my nick since I had already been using it from the BBS days.

Nephilim, by chance have you read "The Story of Civilization" series by Will Durant?
Xian, Ah yes the terracotta warriors from Xian, China. I never saw the display at a museum, or anywhere. I think it was in National Geographic or Discover. Impressive burial.

Nephilim, I would say yes, it is a read.
I had to retrieve the first volume (one of eleven) to get my timelines correct. This is a series that was first copyrighted in 1935. If I remember correctly, he started out as a Seminary student. Then he got the history bug. I would not have gotten it if it were not for the fact it was a book club freebie just for joining. A good decision on my part.
If you decide to read the series, we will miss you for a while.

The story behind the SadJoker nic has its roots in music actually. Back in the day when I was once an Insane Clown Passe fan I was addicted to their Great Melinko and The Amazing Jeckel Brothers albums in particularly to the title track of GM ; The Great Melinko .. I took up with the character from the song the wizard/clown The Great Milenko and thus the SaddestJoker aka SadJ0k3r was born
