article published on 17 April, 2013

According to the Verge, the upcoming Windows Blue update (Windows 8.1) will include the option to boot to desktop, bypassing the current "Modern" UI. The boot option will send users directly to the traditional desktop they've been accustomed to, skipping over the Modern UI which includes tiles that are better suited to touchscreen environments. Microsoft will have the option disabled ... [ read the full article ]

I think the appeal of Vista came with the look of it. You had to have a ridiculously fast computer to run it but it sure looked good. That's why Windows 7 is so popular, it has the look of Vista and the speed of XP.
Indeed, I see what your getting at.

Its a lot easier being righteous than right.

What's irritated the OS's after XP, it seems a number of changed were made in the UI to group, things differently and functionality changed and/or removed altogether. Look at the event viewer, use to be simple and easy use and easy to read all the information needed. While now it seem bloated with new features but interacting with it is clumsy. Other operation I could do from opening a program or property page i could get right into the settings needed, now thing have moved around and often buried within two or three dialog boxes. On reason i'ved liked unix, it has been around for so long and most of all the behavior and operation for existing things never change in newer versions.

I can see people's appeal for the newer OS, but few of my friends will ever dream touching my Thai food at 20 stars, when the restaurant prints on the menu 5 is max isn't for all. We all have our own likes/dislikes. Sadly MS with Win 8 just made it so bad almost no one likes it at all.

When I was talking about looks of the OS I am talking about the 75% of people (maybe more) that have no idea about computers. They just want to check their email and Facebook, that's all, so they go primarily on looks alone. It's sad that alot of people buying new PCs are stuck with 8, me being a veteran with PCs and hating it, I can't even imagine what they are going to go through

The Win 8 betas that Microsoft put out gave them a lot of consumer response to what we all thought about Win 8 ( I know i sent feedback reports when i used the betas )and yet they still have not fixed any of it ! Maybe Windows Blue will ... but that remains to be seen !

Good Luck and Take Care
