Hey I have a v9 ps2 a 200gb maxtor and am using hdadvance2.0. I've noticed after playing for a while that the area around the HD gets warm but I don't think its too serious. I've seen the ps2 usb fan at a few online shops and wondered if its worth getting. Has anyone had any problems with excessive heat? How long would I have to play to get a problem?

Another question about winhiip. I've noticed that when looking on hdadvance it will say that I have for example 150 GB free, but when looking in winhiip it will say that I have 100GB free why this discrepancy? I think the hdadvance format only takes up about 11 GB so I'm wondering what is going on.

Also I remembered a thread about orange flashes coming from the left front slats of the PS2 and wondered what that was. I tried searching but couldn't find it.

The orange flash just lets you know that the hard drive is being accessed. just like on a computer.

it depends on the version of whinhiip. i have 1.6.X and i get a different number represented on my free space. the latest version is 1.7.X. give that a shot and see if it is accurate.

the heat? dont know. hard drives generate heat like crazy no matter what you do with them. if they're not plugged into anything or turned on some way, then it's guaranteed that they wont get hot. but if you USE it, then there's not much you can do unless you get some external cooling method.

The USB cooling fans they sell are very small, and not very fast. I wouldn't imagine they provide a lot of extra cooling. The way the fan is positioned in the USB unit, it blows air across the heatsink so I don't think it would have any effect on the hard drive bay area because that's on the other side of the console.

Unles you put a 10,000 RPM hard drive in there, you are probably OK with the standard fan.

I think I am using the most recent version of winhiip cause I just set it up this week, so I guess I'll trust what HDadvance says.

I figured thats what the orange light was, but I wanted to be sure.

As far as the hd heat goes I guess I'll just keep an eye on it.

Thanks for the help guys.
