Hi all, this is my first post here. This is the closest forum I could find for this issue on the net so I hope this is ok. I do a fair amount of CD burning and I own a few DVD copies but the only disc that wont play through my VCR is any dual layer disc . When I watch a DVD, I have to play it through my VCR because my TV has only one scart connection. I connect the TV to the VCR and then run the DVD player through the video player. This works fine on all my other DVDs, except the dual layer DVDs. This is probably not the right place to be asking this but Im curious as to why and hope someone might have come across it before. Thanks for all replies.

I'm assuming these are store bought DVD dual layer and the video is not coming through the VCR? or did you make your own dual layer discs (ie, your home movies on DL)?
What exactly is the problem? If it doesn't load the disc at all, then it's like my JVC dvd player... it doesn't like Dual Layer discs... in which case you need a more up-to-date DVD player.
If they are store bought, then it's not the fact that it's dual layer... but that it's encrypted with macrovision... which prevents copying of DVD's to VHS... it's not really clear to me how it works, but it's like having a weak signal from the disc player and your VCR can't see it properly.
As far as I know, DVD players have no idea what you are playing your discs thru (tv, flat panel, VCR, PC, etc), but the recieving end is probably the problem.

Yeah I meant to say that the dual layer DVD loads fine, its factory pressed dual layer DVDs which havent worked(I havent tried copied dual layers) and that it plays with an intermitant blue screen. Ill check my other discs to see if they have that Macrovision encryption but it sounds like a good answer to me. Thanks for that. I dont suppose theres a quick fix solution to this, a booster of some sort??

I used to see video amplifiers around, but now I believe they are hard to come by. I'm inexperienced, and even if I knew how to get around it, I don't believe this forum would like me spouting it off... sorry. I suggest getting a new TV with multiple inputs, or a new stereo reciever that you can plug all your video components into (my current scheme). The 'blue' or 'green' screen sounds like Macrovision to me... and your VCR just can get enough of the signal to pass it to the TV.

Yeah, not sure about the legality of this.Technically, its only to watch it through a VCR player, not to record the DVD. ( your Honour.) I looked myself and there are some Macrovision buster type pieces of equipment that may or may not work. Pricey though. All I really need is a scart adapter that that I can plug vcr and dvd player into at the same time. The ones I 've seen so far are junction boxes where you can still only use one of two or three scart junctions. Which are useless. Hohum. Thanks for reply. :) Ady88s.

i used to do the same thing, but got tired of DVD's I couldn't watch so I put out a few extra bucks... finally.
