Hi all,

I hope you can help. I have downloaded dvd decrypter and run the programme. I am able to capture chapters of Star Wars from my dvd onto the hard drive of my computer. However when I go to play the file in Vegas 4, an editing software, it plays the picture but there is no sound. As an aside it now changes the clips to an .veg file ie VTS_01_1.veg

Any thoughts on how I can get sound back ?
Thanks for reading and any help.

I have the exact same problem but using Vegas 5. I don't think it's anything to do with Vegas products but when using DVDdecryter in file mode it doesn't seem to see the audio TS folder which is empty anyway. I have 'selected all' that DVDdecrypter lists when in file mode and get all the video Vobs fine converted to MPEG2's but there is no sound when I run them through Vegas 5 or DVD Architect. Why?

The audio_ts folder is not for audio that's on dvd movies, but DVD-Audio discs (these are not movies). I think the problem exists in your Vegas software. Maybe something with Demultiplexing or something like that, I don't know as I've never used it or even heard of it.

BTW, I use Decrypter for every single movie I backup and have never had an audio problem yet.

I have found this info on another board, worth trying zikizum :)

The approach that I have seen referenced most often is to use "DVD Decrypter" to extract the multiplexed MPEG2 (VOB) file(s) from the DVD, and then process the extracted VOB file(s) with "BeSweet" to extract a WAV file from the AC3 encoded audio in the multiplexed MPEG2 (VOB) file(s). [Vegas can't automatically demultiplex the AC3 audio from a VOB file]. Both DVD Decrypter and BeSweet are free programs. See details below.

1) Use DVD Decrypter (http://www.dvddecrypter.com/) to rip the MPEG2 audio/video file(s) from the DVD.

2) DVD Decrypter should be in the IFO mode (see Mode pull-down menu), under the "Stream Processing" tab enable "Stream Processing" and the "Direct Stream Copy " option (rather than the "Demux" option - (Vegas apparently can't read an MPEG2 generated if you Demux (separate) the DVD chapters into a separate Video and Audio files). Under the "Input" tab you can select the specific DVD chapters to rip.

3) Run "BeSweet" (http://dspguru.doom9.org/) and select the VOB file create by Decrypter. Select "AC3 to Wave" to extract the audio from the multiplexed VOB file.

4)Rename the VOB video file produced by DVD Decrypter to have an MPG extension, and dragging the file to the timeline in Vegas 5. Similarly, drag the WAV file created by BeSeweet to the Vegas timeline.

5) Realign the WAV audio and MPG video on the Vegas timeline - I found the BeSweet extracted WAV file to be about 8 frames behind the corresponding MPEG2 video (VBO file). I'm told this is caused by the fact that the when you extract the VOB file by chapter it results in a broken frame at the begining and end of the file, which BeSweet will ignore and your audio will be out of sync. This (I'm told) can be avoided by extracting the entire content of the DVD (rather than extracting specific chapters), or just live with re-syncing the audio in Veags.

Holo, thank you sooooo much for your references and effort in your long and detailed response. St Peter should carry you through the pearly gates for it. This will take me a while to sort this lot out and then I'll get back to you with the results. Cheers
