need some help looking for a good convertor for files from net want to convert to hard drive first then to dvd simple would be best

Well in that case , what you are after is an encoder :-)

There's hundreds to choose from , have a gander [look] through some of the AVI to dvdr threads and/or the most excellent guides section.
You should have a pretty good idea by then what you want to ask at least.
