yamada 6700 wrong region error

Been using my Yamada 6700 for a few months and its been fine. I upgrade the firmware and was fine but now wont play original region2 disks. I tried reverting to the original firmware, checked to see the players region was set correctly but still no joy. I then re-set the machine to the factory settings but it still wouldnt play any of my original dvd's. plays everything else i stick in it! Could i have messed it up when upgrading firmware? Any help would be gratefully appreciated.
