what is ur processor speed?

the processor speed really counts! A 550 mzh can do a dvd in like 1 and a 1/2 hr. a 3.2 ghz can do it in 8 min.

What movie are you trying to do, this error is usually caused by a movie that Shrink is unable to handle because of protection. Have you tried ripping to your hardrive and then using Shrink?

Try running DVD43Free in the background, it is a free program.

http://www.filepedia.com/video_software/dvd_rippers/index2.cfm

Or get the trial version of AnyDVD, you can use it for 21 days

http://www.slysoft.com

Or here is a guide for hard to rip DVD's.

@jbgillett

Here is a guide for DMA settings, you should check them

When you hit backup in Shrink, go into the settings and make sure that deep analysis and quality enhancement are not checked

Yes it will change the quality, but if you are burning a 2hr 54min movie the time you state if using the deep analysis and quality enhancements is correct :~)
