from a HP newsgram: Most DVDs and some TV programs are encrypted with copy protection. Some can't be copied at all, while others produce copies with distorted picture quality.

To prevent content from being illegally shared, the HP Media Center PC and HP Digital Entertainment Center look for protection information embedded in music or video files and encrypt them with the help of digital rights management (DRM) technologies. Only people who have licenses to play the content (those who rent or buy the movie) can view it. In some cases, a movie or other digital file can only be played back on the HP Media Center PC or HP Digital Entertainment Center where it was originally downloaded or streamed.

has anyone heard of DRM? is this new or am I just being stupid??? ;-)
