I've just received my Swap magic PAL 3.6 with the magic switch pro, installed it, and played 3 backed up ps2 games. There were no problems until the 3rd day after using swap magic. My backed up DVD movies play until halfway then start stuttering and jerking. I used Verbatim DVD+R 8x. Never had this problem before i started using swap magic. Could it be the swap magic ? my ps2 backups play perfectly with the Verbatims DVD+R 8x copied using DVDecrypter at 1x. Could it be the media, but doesnt make sense cos the ps2 backups play fine. Some help please !!!!!!!
for one thing you do not need to use Swap Magic for back up movies, only games. Back up movies will play just fine even on an unmodded system. They do not have the BCA (burst Cutting Area) that can not be copied like games do.
Try it without Swap Magic and see what happens.
Also try a program more suited for doing movies like DVD Shrink (which is free) or Nero or CloneDVD2
I know DVD Shrink and CloneDVD2 make great back up copies for me even when i leave in all the extras and it is compressing the video at 58%.
And since you have the slim PSTwo ( i assume this because the chunk older style didn't use the magic switch) it should do fine with both +R and -R discs.
Media can be the key to good back ups but i have heard nothing but good things about Verbatim for doing games, not sure about movies.
I always use +R for movies and -R for games
Mostly Philips 8X discs but sometimes TDK 4X
i dont use swap magic with my backup DVD movies, just put the DVD's in straight. Im using DVD Xcopy platinum 4.0.3.8 to backup dvd's. The backups played perfect before i started using swap magic....could it be my laser is wearing cos of the backups. I have v12 slimline. Someone told me to use Ritek (g04) DVD-R, for my backups on the v12 PS2. Which program would you suggest for backing up my DVD movies and for PS2 games ?????
youre starting to undermind yourself.you said your movie backups played fine before.so you know it has nothing to do with your media or your programs you use to copy them.it probably has to do with the installation of the magic switch.it covers the sensors so you can open the tray.right?people have had trouble when these pieces werent inserted correctly.the discs themselves are programs that are temporary and are erased from the ps2 after you reset or turn the power off.so the discs arent causing your probs.
I have a ASUS DRW-1608P DVD burner with latest frimware updated to ver 1.40 running on AMD K6-2 400mhz. My dvd writer supports 16x, 12x, 8x, 4x, on dvd. I cannot drop the burn speed to 1x on any program eg. Nero, Alcohol 120%, DVDecrypter. the least is 4x. Any idea how to drop the burn speed to 1x ??
You don't NEED to drop the burn speed to 1X, 4X should work just fine. I just set mine to 1X and let it burn at the best speed, which for me using 8X discs is around 3.8X
I also don't think swap magic is the problem because i have used it for years with no problems.
I have heard Ritek G04 discs are very good, but not all the same media works for everybody, again if you were using Verbatim they are suppose to be good too.
As far as the programs i suggest DVD Decrypter for games and DVD Shrink for movies are great programs that are both free.
I use a combo myself Anydvd/CloneDVD2 for movies, but they are not free. The quality i was getting was great with the trial so i bought it.
And as far as the magic switch i really know nothing about them outher than what they are used for. My V12 has a DMS4 Pro
I agree use DVD Decrypter for games and shrink for movies. I use swap magic 3.6 NTSC and virbatim dvd-r 8x for games and burn at 8x and have not yet had a sigle coaster. the +r's I have had touble with skipping, also DO NOT USE generic like princo or dvdpro or you will have a major skipping problems
