I have some smaller (10 to 50 mb) RealVideo 8 files (RV30, file ending is *.rm) that I want to convert to DivX so I can watch them on my standalone DVD player.
I just tried TINRA and TINRA GUI but only got a black screen as a result. No error popups in the making but a black screen when playing them on a media player.
Does anyone know how I can convert *.rm files to DivX or XviD?

REAL is one of those proprietary codecs where they have no interest in compatibility (they don't open in VDub/VDubMod/NanDub).
There are some video converters floating around the web though...
Sadly though, there is a tradition of interoperabilty between MPEG1, MPEG2 and MPEG4 (VCD, DVD and AVI) that does not include Quicktime and REAL.
Like VHS and BETA (am I giving away my age?) there is a takeover-the-market mentality ('win' the market) that depresses me.

We need more standardization and compatibility (it is my theme for this evening, LoL ;^)
Anyway there are converters out there, but they may cost $$ and/or be hard to find - and this is why.

Well you can convert to a raw stream for muxing to mp4 or an AVI using mencoder. It supports XviD, DivX3, open DivX and libavcodec's own MPEG4 encoder.
For DivX files I guess you could try their new encoder. It is if I recall the blurb supposed to be able to convert any file, so it should support rm.
