Whenever I burn to a TDK DVD-R,the DVD burns until about 27 percent, then the light on the DVD burner stops blinking and i get an error at 100 percent, and i end up with a coaster. I tried a Verbatim DVD-R and it burned fine. I restarted my PC and tried another TDK DVD and got a good burn. Now i'm getting more coasters. Do you think theres a problem with thses DVDs? Or is my burner messed up?

never had any luck with tdk.lots of cyclical redundancy errors. phillips has served me very well.avoid memorex and store brand media.i bought a 50 pack of tdk once because the price was right and half the burns failed and the other half plays 90 percent of the movie and cuts the end off saying the disc is unreadable.from what i've read from other people, you get what you pay for.even though some people would disagree phillips has worked very well and is reasonably priced.i think name brand media contracts the production out to different companies so you may buy tdk once and it works great and next time fails 65 percent of burns.

i tried again and got a good burn after lowering the burn speed. I use InstantCopy and I have 4 options for the burn speed. Automatic,Maximum,Medium, and Minimum. I tried minimum and it worked. I believe it was 2x but i'm not sure.

yeah i always burn slow.my biggest thing is that i spend more time burning movies than watching them and i don't want to burn 10 movies, sit down and watch one and find out the end is screwed.happened with day after tomorrow, bad boys, and star wars, all with tdk i might add.

because companies use different manufacturers to make their product,it might depend on where you live.not sure though.where i live tdk sucks for cds and dvds.probably i live closer to the sucky manufacturer so i get the crap.or maybe i've just had bad luck with tdk, copying dvds can be non-user friendly.

here's your problem - (not an up to date list) -

TDK DVD+R 4x (CMC MAG.F01)
TDK DVD+R 4x (RICOHJPNR01)
TDK DVD+R 8x (CMC MAG.E01)
TDK DVD+R 8x (RICOHJPN R02)
TDK DVD+RW 2.4x (MCC.....A01)
TDK DVD+RW 4x (RICOHJPNW11)
TDK DVD-R 2x (MCC 00RG200)
TDK DVD-R 2x (MXL RG01....)
TDK DVD-R 2x (RITEKG04....)
TDK DVD-R 2x (TDKG02000000)
TDK DVD-R 4x (TTG01.......)
TDK DVD-R 4x (TYG01.......)
TDK DVD-R 4x Scratch-Proof (TTG01)
TDK DVD-R 8x (TTG02)
TDK DVD-R 8x (TTH01)
TDK DVD-RW 2x (TDK502sakuM3)
TDK DVD-RW 2x Scratch-Proof (TDK502sakuM3)

TDK use varying quality of manufacturers (in brackets). You get too much of a mixed bag with TDK, try Verbatim, TY (beware of fakes). There are others, ie Sony etc, but Verbatim datalifeplus are what i would recommend from experience. They cost no more than crap or inferior discs

I had the exact same problem with TDK dvd-R 8X media (purchased at Costco)
Also with a bad batch of Taiyo Yuden and also Fuji dvd's(made in Taiwan). It was a hit or miss on all three media's.
I then purchased Ritek dvd-R 4x G4 since they always worked for me in the past, and the problem went away. And I do burn at 4x with no problems.

Probably got some fake TY's and the fuji's made in taiwan I believe will code out as prodisc's. Look for made in japan when buying fuji's.

You usually don't see too many problems with TDK dvd-r's but be leary of their dvd+r's, chance of getting cmc mag garbage.

One must also consider that not all drives like the same discs. A disc that works well with one brand of drive will not necessarily give similar results with another. A lot of factors are at work here and not all of the copy failures are due to the brand of disc. If this were so, no one would ever have success with Memorex discs.

I bought a 15-pack of TDK's once to try them out. Two got bad burns, and one had a bad piece of plastic chipping off right from the center hole .

@babayaga - download dvdinfopro (free) and run a media info check on one of those TDKs so we can see the media code

The madia code on the TDKs that I had is TTG01.

By the way, what is your guys' opinion on Prodisc. Are they good or bad? I use SmartBuy discs that I get cheaply (about 50cents per disc) and they always work like a charm. I like SmartBuy also because they are dedicated only to Prodisc, so I always get stable quality. Do any of you ever have problems with prodisc? What is your opinion on this manufacturer?

I'd say Prodisc is pretty decent. When I got my first burner in December '04, I bought a 25 pack of Memorex DVD-R's with it. I wasn't aware that Memorex is regarded as low quality, as I remembered their CD-Rs being OK. The DVDs were Prodisc and burned great. The 2nd pack of Memorex DVD's were CMC and were terrible.

"Different strokes for different folks". I've had nothing but success with TDKs, just as some have nothing but success with Memorex and others with TYs.

Well not to throw Taiyo Yuden down, but I am currently having problems with some... I got for a birthday present a 100 pack of Taiyo's 4x dvd-r from americal. Well they don't burn at 4x to start...anytime i go to 4x... it will error out the buffer will freeze up it makes some bad noises and they it dies out...they are authentic Taiyo's unless the media code has been faked out. Nero reads them as Taiyo's...so does the dvd indent...is there anyway to see if they are not the real deal??? I have checked my burner and software they are ok! Just to rule that out
