I am new to the PS2 scene but I am not new to the mod scene. I have been installing chips since PS1s and do alot of xbox modding(soft and chip). My soldering skills are limited and I do not know what everything is that I solder to. I go by the guides so I only know the points as numbers not the actual function they go to.
I was working on someones XBox at their home and a friend of thiers was present. He offered me a PS2 with a mod chip for $25 but it no longer read disc, he was moving out of state and needed some cash. I went home and fixed the drive immediatly and got it to a functional state, V1 system if that matters.
I backed up some games that I have aquired over the years but could not get the back ups to boot. The guy told me he had someone else mod it and knew nothng of the mod, other then it played back ups and SNES games. I took the system apart to figure out what type of chip was in it and what info I could get about it.
When I opened up the bottom I did not find a mod chip but I found a wire inside with the worst solder job I have ever seen, also some nasty patches of super glue and electrical tape. This obviously pissed me off but the guy was gone so I had no way of figuring anything out. Ive spent the past week looking up info to try to figure out what this one single wire is.
After looking through numerous mod guides, I am thinking that its the wire for NeoKey/Sbox type mod but I didnt recieve the actual USB adapter. After reading the poor reviews of these mods I decided I was going to go about a different way of modding instead of getting a replacement adapter. I wanted to go with a chip but after re-examining the mess that was currently installed I decided to just go with Swap Magic.
After my long rant of info I have 2 questions. First being, is their anything else that this single wire soldered to the bottom of the board could be? Second is why is the slide card needed with Swap Magic? On my PS2, Im not certain if its because of that wire, it does not reboot when opened. When the tray is opened at anytime it automaticaly shuts it self within 5 seconds. It will shut and continue with the game, if midst game, or shut the same way if at the main system screen. If the tray is opened during a game it does not cause the system to reboot it just interupts the music and the game continues, which is why I thought the slide card was needed? Any help would be appreciated
