Well, I haven't been tinkering with any settings -specifically any direct show priorities in VirtualDub, but when I play certain files in WMP10, they come out all slow and jerky, and the audio is all slurred and delayed, and barely audible. What can be done to remedy the situation?

VirtualDub doesn't have any dshow priority settings. It is a VfW app only.

You haven't been installing codec packs?

Try mplayer or VLC as they don't rely on installed codecs.
