Hi, ive been copying DVDs for quite a while, and converting downloads to DVD too, just wonderered if i am doing something wrong here. When i put a downloaded film onto DVD it plays perfectly put there is a slight pause every second or so, almost as if a frame is missing.... its not too bad but annoying all the same...

i am using dvdsanta to encode which i am really happy with apart from this problem. i am converting to PAL maybe that is it?

Do you have a PAL DVD player? If you are trying to play a PAL DVD on an NTSC machine, it will hang.. NTSC requires 29fps. PAL runs at 25fps... Could be your missing frame theory. Have you tried leaving it NTSC?

Tx i will try that with the next one, does dvdsanta look at the AVI and choose the best setup for the dvd or does it just choose NTSC as default?

To be honest, I haven't used DVD Santa. If the film you downloaded is film (24fps) then it is best to use 3:2 Pulldown (it tricks your player into playing at 24fps, while it thinks the video is 29fps). If it is 29fps, then you want to use 'interlace'. Do you have these options in DVD santa? If the film is 25fps then for best quality, you should use 25fps. There is a converter out there that can convert a PAL (25fps) .mpg file to NTSC. I forget what it is called, but I saw it listed here. Take a look under the software section. I'm sure you'll find it. Maybe you won't have to re-encode anything. :)
