New Sony DVD burner/Nero is killing me!

Hi everyone...can someone help me. I just installed a new Sony DVD RW DRU-720A on a clean install of Windows XP. Also using a full copy of Nero. I can't get the DVD burner to burn DVDs. I am even using Sony DVD-Rs. The following errors keep posting...I'm new to this computer stuff and would love some help!

The following is the log file. It says something about "Book Type setting not supported for the loaded disc type" and "Status: 0x04 (0x01, SCSI_ERR)".

First things first. The first 3 lines (mainly the serial number part) should get edited out before someone decides to use your serial number. We don't want that.

Normally, the memory in use is around 50% or so, you should try to end some of those background programs (antivirus, stuff you don't need for burning a disc), and don't do anything else with the computer while burning, that can really screw the burn process up.

You should have something for WinASPI. Here's an article explaining a bit about ASPI and providing a link to get it from:

This is an outdated version of Nero, you should be at 6.6.0.12 at least, but the latest is 6.6.0.14 I think.

You should download a program called DVD Identifier (http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/) and scan one of the discs you are using, one that has been burned onto though. This will tell you who really made the disc, the brand you buy isn't always the manufacturer. Then there should be a button there that says More Info... which will take you to an online database where you can compare and check compatibility of certain media. If you buy discs in a store I recommend Verbatum with the Super AZO Dye and if you buy online I recommend Taiyo Yuden.

good catch bigfatboy!! DVD-R cannot be booktyped. That's only a feature for +R or +RW discs. Try to disable this as he said, maybe that'll help too.

@sdbeck77 - doh i'm getting slow. I chucked the entire logfile into notepad, went thru it and all i could find wrong was the 'Book Type setting not supported for the loaded disc type' error. Then noticed the comments from the other guys. Everything else in your setup looks 100% fine apart from possibly this -

- you're burning too close to outer edge of disc. If you use DVD Shrink , set the target size to 4300MB in preferences, thus ALL movies will never try to create files over 4300MB maximum.
