I have a Norcent DP-220, which plays DivX movies fine, but not all Xvids. Is there any good freeware to that can convert this for me?

Sounds like the player doesn't support 3 warp point GMC or qpel. No reason why you have to convert to DivX though, as you said it supports some XviD's encodes.

Try VirtualDubMod.
