please help, i'm going crazy! i tried everything and i'm wasting so many dvd's.

i use dvd shrink 3.2: 1) use the deep analysis, 2)slowest burn speed (2x), 3) and all other options to help make the burn smooth (oh and it's under 'sharp' quality, 4) use 4300mb.
yet i encounter the same problem for several of the dvds, when i watch the dvd, near the end of the movie...it's choppy and freezes at times, noticably near the end.
specs (thanks for asking matt72):
1. i think it's a generic burner, can't find where it's from
2. yes i have sucessfully burned dvd movies and backups w/o any problems
3. i've used dvd-r and dvd+r generic brand
4. i am connected to the internet via router, but i usually do not have any other programs running while burning

The_OGS, i'm trying to use nero right now straight from my hd, but as i move the folder 'video_ts' over, the file is way too big, is there a specific way of doing this? i've never tried this before. thanks!

thanks,
phoenixuz

What brand and model of dvd writer are you using? Have you sucessfully burned any backups with it? What type of blank dvd media are you using? Programs running in the background or connected to the net while burning? What software are you using to burn? like a media problem or your target size (4.7g is the size but suggested burn size should be 4300mb) is burning too close to the edge of the dvd. Just a few questions so we have enough info to go off of.

Oh and welcome to Afterdawn..lots of knowledge to pick up if you stick around.

to burn or not to burn that is the question

I have been using DVD-R but have recently switched to DVD+R - they are technically superior.
Give them a try, burn slow... perhaps you will achieve better playback performance from your hardware.
I do not burn with Shrink - I direct the output to folder (Video_TS) on harddisk, and then burn DVD with Nero.

Try some better media. That is likely what the problem is. Reducing the file size helps in most cases but only to a point. If you are happily burning away until the edge of the disc is approached and the burn process fails, it's pretty hard to blame anything else. Using any generic media is just asking for problems. We don't recommend Memorex here because it comes from so many different manufacturers. You never know what you are getting until you buy it and can look at the code. I would think with generic media that would be an even bigger problem.

You can enable Shrink to burn using Nero automatically. Enable Nero in Preferences and then set your burner as your target on the Target Device tab under your burn settings. I also do the drag and drop Nero method though. I think you have more control over the process.

If the file is too big then you need to make it smaller. Are you sure you had the Shrink output files and not the original uncompressed files?
