Hi. While watching a burnt copy of 'Ray' I encountered an audio problem - the sound seemed to stutter after @ 30 mins. When I turned off the dvd and then turned it back on it worked fine. However after about 30 - 40 mins it did the same thing and I had to turn the dvd off and on again. I then tried another disc of the same movie but it did the same thing. I am not sure if it is the burning process or my dvd player that may be the problem (Toshiba). When I play them both on the computer they work fine without any audio problems. I have not had a problem like this before.

I have windows 2000 and used Shrink/Nero and burnt at 4x. The discs I used were coded as follows:
Verbatim dvd-r MCC 02RG20
Verbatim dvd-rw MCC 01RW4X
Both Nero logs say the burns are successful.
I only burnt the main movie.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Well, the fact that they work in the PC fine say that that the streams are burned correctly and that there are no errors in the data.

There is a suggestion of incomptibility between your standalone and the media (discs) you are using.

One thing to try is to slow your burn speed down to 2x and see if that helps.

Other than that, there maybe a firmware download available for your standalone that may help also, you will have to find your model at the manufacturers website to check if one os available.

Also, it maybe worthwhile trying a different brand media, although the brand you are using are a reputable one.

Hope this helps............

I put an original dvd -'Arrested Devlopment' - into my standalone and found that after 30 - 40 mins again the original had a picture problem. It was sort of jumping. I know that when I watched this original last week there was nothing wrong with the picture at all so even though it was a picture problem this time and not an audio problem I think it may be my standalone Toshiba. Would it be worth trying to get a dvd lense cleaner or do you think this won't do me any good?

Obviously it seems that it occurs once the dvd has warmed up - hence a problem after the magic 30-40 minute mark.

Well, if it is affecting your originals, then yes a dvd lense cleaner should help.

It maybe also that the optic is failing in the standalone, but worth going to simple/cheap route to see if it is just a little dirty...................
