I have a NEC DVD+RW ND - 6100A. I have used DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink and DVD Clone. Works great! No problems. However, when I went to rip another copy, from a copy, none of the applications read the disk. Properties on the disk read "empty." The disk plays in both DVD player and computer. I have to open the Power DVD application first. I can't click on the drive in My Computer.
Auto play is enabled. There is also an error unable to read video files from D:/
D:/Video_TS.IFO unable to open file
Can I make a rip from a rip? I have always stored download files to be burned at a later date or another copy for a friend.
Any ideas?
Thanks

CompUSA DVD+R 4.7GB 120min
I'm not sure what you are asking about ID codes. I also checked for firmware, but none is available for this drive. Computer was purchased last summer.

Try cleanind disc, otherwise sounds like disc is bad.
You might want to try and wait until the light goes off the second time on your writer b4 you try to get it to read the disc.

I have tried about 12 of the disks I have burned. They can be played only after starting Power DVD and opening the disk in the application. They work in my home DVD players. All the burned disks are not being read by Decrypter, Shrink or CloneDVD2.

I had problems with these disks and my NEC1300a, I could not get them to burn and if they did they froze on my standalones. This is really not good media it is made by Princo, considered third class media. Try Verbatim, NEC loves this media and you should have no problems in the future.

I have burned dozens of back ups with no problem. PowerDVD will play the disks but only if you open the application first. All retail DVDs are read and auto start. I wanted to make a back up of a back up. Is there something in the backing up process that doesn't allow you to do this? There is an error message about not finding a certain file on the disk.

hi

not finding the file could be the degradation of it, do these disc play on standalone dvd players?

Yes, all the ripped disks play on a stand alone payer. They also play in the computers DVD drive, but only if I open the player software(PowerDVD) first. It will not start in the computer by clicking on MY Computer - DVD Drive. The drive is mot calculating the amount of space used on the ripped disk. It Auto Plays and calculates the space on the original copies. All the ripped disks have the same file missing when I use them to rip another back up. Sounds like a software ripping problem or a DVD Drive formate setting that has changed. It's hard to imagin that all my ripped copies have gone bad in less then a year. Even the ones I ripped last week are missing this file
D:/
D:/Video_TS.IFO unable to open file.
But they all play just fine in both the stand alone and in the computer. Is there something in CloneDVD2 that is deleating this file during the burning process? Are there any settings I should have enabled or disabled? I will try Verbatim. I tried ripping a disk with SonicDVD and it reads it. I haven't tried to burn. This is very strange.
Thanks

hi

not sure here chap? but i am going to hazard a guess that i would look at if it were me! ok, i think it may be down to the ripping and part burning maybe? but ripping...

uninstall DVD Decrypter reboot pc then load/install if again and change no settings!!! then do a rip of an original and burn it! may loose a disc or use RW discs for this then see if you can copy a copy on useing DVD Decrypter on iso read then iso write!

also are the ones you need to copy a copy from a movie only situation? as these hopefully can be saved to make a new copy by taking all vobs and place in a folder on your hard drive, then use IFOEdit v96 (96 more stable) its a free app, then click the button bottom center called CREATE IFO this will make new ifo/bup files for your vobs of main movie only and then you can load to shrink to output to DVD Decrypter or use Nero to burn the files your chioce on that...

note = keep destination of new ifo same as vobs folder!!!

i'd suggest copy/paste of the copied disks but you're saying the disc doesn't show up in 'my computer' ?. that's strange.
Quote:
D:/Video_TS.IFO unable to open file
- there should be 2 directories in the root directory of a DVD - audio_ts - always empty on any i've seen, and video_ts, within this directory should be ALL the files from the movie, video_ts.ifo included.

I'd say the copy process isn't being done correctly, even though you say your standalone players play the discs.

Any suggestions as to the copying process? I thought I was doing it correctly until I went to make a copy of a copy.
Thanks

Hi Rotary,
I did what you had suggested before Creaky's postings. The disk could not be read.
So I am up to this point: "also are the ones you need to copy a copy from a movie only situation? as these hopefully can be saved to make a new copy by taking all vobs and place in a folder on your hard drive, then use IFOEdit v96 (96 more stable) its a free app, then click the button bottom center called CREATE IFO this will make new ifo/bup files for your vobs of main movie only and then you can load to shrink to output to DVD Decrypter or use Nero to burn the files your chioce on that...

I did install the IFOEdit v96. I'm confused about the VOB files. How do I get the original VOB files on my hard drive before using Decrypt? The VOB files in the video subfolder are the ones you are talking about? The new files created by IFOEdit replace the original VOB files? Or do I need to delete the original files before Dycrypt and DVDShrink. Is there a tutorial? I'm all messed up.

hi

if your dvd is a copy (backup) then no ripping is needed or shouldnt!

so you can do a basic highlight the main movie vobs (if main movie only on your copy then you need all the vobs!) and place them in a folder on your hard drive (copy and paste with right clicking on the highlighted vobs - about 4/5?) no app needed...

then load ifoedit and click the button CREATE IFO use the folder you copied the files to on your hd (there should only be vobs in this folder!!!!!!!! no ifo or bups from the backup copy)

then click go keeping the destination folder same as vobs folder

this will make new ifo/bup file to make your vobs run as a dvd again! then burn the lot in nero say on add-video tab!

let me know how it goes...

I read Scuba Pete's suggestions and have burned copies without using CloneDVD2. I am using DVD Decrypt in ISO write mode to burn a back up. Now my DVD drive can read and copy a copy. Does CloneDVD2 have this ISO setting?

He has the same problem that I have it sounds like. After I burn a +R backup it act's like the drive does not read the media at all. However, when I put the freshly baked +R DVD into my stand alone player it works great... When I get home I will try and post my burner specs to see if they match up. This is a very weird problem and it act's like it's a non supported format on the dvd. The only common link with my problem and yours is "PowerDVD". That's what I generally use also. If I find a way to get it going I will post my results for you CJ.

Houston, we need backup!!

I am now using Scuba Pete's suggestions:
http://www.dvdplusvideo.com/petesguide3.html
I'm not using CloneDVD2 at all. The disks are being written in ISO formate using DVD Decrypt. My Power DVD now reads the disk. My DVD Decrypt and Shrink also read the disk. The only thing I haven't tried is burning a copy of a copy using CloneDVD2. Prior to using SP's suggestions, I had gotten an error message saying that an ifo. file was missing.

I guess I'll have to give it a try. Waste a disk or us a RW as a test.
I hope this helps.
I wonder if the developers of CloneDVD2 know about this problem.

Hi All,
I spoke to soon. Decrypt and Shrink only read the newly burned disk if I don't take it out of the tray after burning. Same problem as before. I don't get it. Sonic read the the disk but stopped about 3/4 of the way through and said there was a ifo. file missing. I have tried to copy a copy a few different ways and the same problem happens. The disk can be played on a free standing player. This seriously s--ks. My kingdom for a fix.
The error message is posted in the post above.

Well I guess I won't have to give away the farm just yet.
After following Scuba Pete's auggestion (to the letter) on using DVD Decrypt and Shrink, I now have no problems with the DVD drive reading the disk and or it's ability to copy a copy. The trick is that Decrypt needs it's own Folder to do it's job. Worked for me! Life is good again. He has got some other doog ideas. Give his site a try: http://www.dvdplusvideo.com/petesguide3.html

So far so good. I'm not sure if it's the change from CompUSA media to Sony or if it was the creation of the extra folder for DVD Decrypt to do it's job. I think I'll keep both things!
