Hello All,
I am currently become very fustrated in trying to capture video from a VHS(PAL) player on to my PC.
I believe I have all the right equipment connected in the right way, but when I try to capture it in a video program I just cannot see the source.
I have used:
PowerProducer Gold - When I select the source option I get the message:" IDS_DEV_UNAVAILABLE"
On Windows MovieMaker: When I click 'capture from video device'I get the message that no device is detected.
In VirtualVCR - there is no source showing at all.
My set up is:
AMD Athalon 64 3400+
Windows XP Home Edition
1024 RAM
Radeon 9800 graphics card
Direct X 9.0c
The VCR is connected to the PC by a Scart to 4 pin + audio leads (into Y adaptor)
What am I doing wrong? Do I need to set up the VCR in the PC before I can use it? If so, how do I do it?
This is driving me bonkers, so if anyone can help I would be VERY grateful....
Thanks,
Donhinio.

What have you got the VCR plugged in to?
Is your video card a "All-In-Wonder" version?
If so, have you tried ATI's capture software?
If not, what capture device are you using?

Jim,
My video is connected to my graphics card which is a Radeon 9800 SE AGP. It is connected to the PC by a Scart to 4 pin + audio leads (into Y adaptor) with an in/out switch on the scart end.
Regards,
Donhinio.

That video card is not a capture card. The plugs on your Radeon are for video out to a TV, not capturing.
You need to purchase a capture device.

Jim, I'm having the same issue with a card that I know is a capture card as I have used it before to capture.
nVidia TI4800
Suggestions if you have any? I'm getting the IDS_DEV_UNAVAILABLE error on a windows 2003 server machine. DirectX maybe?
Thanks for any help.

Hi donhinio,
I would like to know if you have been successful with the video capture and if so please share the wealth. I seem to be getting the same error message "ids_dev_unavailable" and in Win XP "device already in use".
Thanks

Hello Torpito,
No, no success as such:
My video card is not a capture card. The plugs on my Radeon are for video out to a TV, not capturing.
I need to purchase a capture device.
Good luck!
Donhinio.

Okay folks, heeeeere´s the trick:
From the top....
Make sure all your software is up to snuff, with all the upgrades available.
When connecting the VCR/DVD player to the PC FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS.Always remeber thet the guy that wrote the instructions does not speak English...HE´S ORIENTAL FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!! You need to decypher the stuff, it´s not their fault.
Third...make sure that you have a DECODER like ADS VIDEO EXPRESS to unlock the MACROVISION crap. I have one and it works. Just plug the wires into the back of your VCR (red, yellow, white) plug them into the ADS BOX (red, yellow, white) and plug the USB cable from the ADS BOX into your USB in the PC...plug in the power supply...install the software and you will be amazed. The cheapest way to buy this stuff is at eBay or any otjher of the bidding sites available.
I hope that this answer and helps resolve your ptoblem.
Good luuck

I am also getting the message "IDS_DEV_UNAVAILABLE" when I try to use Power Producer Gold.
I can use Studio 8 and MGI Video Wave and I don't have any trouble capturing.
I have Windows XP Pro and an ATI All in Wonder Card (Radeon 9600) and I know for sure that it is a capture card.
I have also tried tech support at Cyberlink and haven't been satisfied with their help and the person who sold me the system has been even less help.
Any ideas?
