hi i am new, do i use cd's or dvd's to copy.

It depends on if the game originally came on CD or DVD disk. If the file is less than 700, I'm pretty sure you copy onto CD, and if it is more than 700, copy onto DVD.
And I'm talkin Megabytes here

if the game has blue on the bottem of the disk, then it is a cd, which means you have to back it up using a cd..look on the front of the dvd or cd that you have.It will say compact disk or DVD
