Not sure, but I've been doing it often enough for several years. No harm done so far.

I doubt it...everytime I make a backup, I zoom through it fast to see if there are any glitches....never had a problem :)

i really doubt there is any harmful affects to the disc as well, i do exactly what jim does to my backups, to quickly check for any MAJOR glitches/errors...they all playback just fine after doing this forward and backwards many times over :)

you should be just fine korso, dvds are not made like vhs tapes where the ribbon/tape on the inside deteriorates the more times it's wound up/played/fast forwarded. moving parts inside a vhs cassette also make it that much more prone to disaster/ ribbon getting all tangled up inside :) w/ optical media, no moving parts, everything is burned by the laser when you do your backup...just laser from your drive/stand alone reading the part again. :)

Verbatim dvd+r DL (MKM001)= flawless no compression backups

Actually it does no damage to the DVD, but I'm pretty sure it messes up the DVD Player sooner or later. I read that somewhere, might have been on AD.

As with everything, just make good sense while using your DVD player, and it'll be alright.
