TMPGEnc won't do anything

I tried following the guide here and used TMPGEnc, and at first it said the files I was using (AVIs encoded with Xvid) weren't acceptable. So I downloaded the Xvid codec, now when I go to try the file as soon as I click "Open" the program closes out. Anyone have any idea of what I could do?

I'm afraid that AVI might be corrupt.
usually TMPGEnc should convert to 0 to the 'corrupt' point, but we may try to save someting.
Try this: load the movie with VirtualDub (can you?) and try to re-encode the Xvid movie 'mute' and in another format, e.g. DivX or another Xvid with Video set, as default, on Full processing and Audio set on 'No Audio'.
If it doesn't work, try to encode after the corrupt point with Video___Select Range (e.g. the movie can be encoded from 0 to 5' . Then you try to encode selecting a Range from 6' --> end).
If it works, you can try to convert the movie and the sound separately (to make what? a (S)VCD movie wull need MP2. For a DVD movie you need either WAV or AC3) but the main problem lies in saving the video....

Have you any codec packs instealled, this is one way TMPGEnc behaves when there;s a conflict between codecs.!
