I've just bought a camcorder and i'm trying to burn my movies into a DVD (4.7GB).

However, when i import the video, i get a .avi format. I've just imported a small segment. It's only 1 minute long and takes up 300MB, which means i would only be able to store 15 minutes on a DVD.

Quality is pretty bad as well.

Is there a software i can use to convert this .avi format into a different format that will not take as much space?

What's the best way to transfer camcorder videos into a DVD-R format?

PS: I hate Sony's documentation :(

you could look at another program called "Editdv", might improve on the quality aspect for you

Hello bmwbg,

Did you use DivXtoDVD to convert your 300 Mb AVI file ?

I assume the .VOB output was around 1 Gb ?

Usually, a 700mb AVI will results in about 1.5 - 2 Gb DVD VOB files...
