"The Jacket" - DVD not visible to drive

I've tried a couple DVD drives, but the movie, "The Jacket" doesn't seem to be showing up in the drive so I can't even watch it on my computer. Is this a protection technique, or is it just a bad DVD? It works fine on my XBOX (newer DVD hardware version). I tried with a TDK (8x DVD-/+RW) and a standard Toshiba DVD read-only for a COMPAQ laptop. I've heard that newer Audio CDs have similiar problems and can be bypassed by taking a black marker to the first track (which has encoding to inhibit computer access) - but it sounds more like a rumor to me.

for the most part it can be the media used ie: the disc, if not a good stable brand this could be the problem as dvd players have a hard time reading things, from the xbox reply above it does work, so ehat you did apps wise was good to go!!

It is a reasonably common problem with some DVDs sourced from South East Asian countries - they will play OK on a standalone or Xbox etc. but will not be recognised by Windows or other DVD programs on your PC.

Possibly due to inferior quality media or the use of non-english characters in the TOC.
