Is my XBOX dead?

Okay, long story short, I found an XBOX in the garbage today and decided to take it for the HD to put it in my PC, but, then I decided to try and fix it.

Here's what's going on:

I don't know the version, don't know where to find it, Manufature Date is : 2001-08-07 if that helps.

When I press the power button, you can hear the fan turn on, then it turns of after a second or two, then on again for a second or two, then off again, then on and it stays on. No lights on the XBOX turn on. When I press the CD tray button when it's off, it does the same thing as when you press the power button, and the CD tray doesn't open. Disconnected the HD, same thing. There is no video or audio output either. So would it be the motherboard do you think? Or no? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!
