quick question, in order to make a copy of a large dvd that I just purchased (casino anniversay edition), can't i simply copy the whole movie without compression to a blank dual layer (dvd-9) disk with dvd shrink? If not, is there any program that will allow me to make dual layer copies? I do have a dual lyer burner. thanks.

I could be wrong, but I'm not sure Shrink has the ability to place the layer break correctly. Use DVD Decrypter. Set it to defaults. Then select Mode> ISO> Read, to pull from the original to your HDD. Then, select Mode>ISO>write to burn it to your blank.

I wish you luck, though. Very few DL blanks are good quality. As expensive as they are, making coasters out of those things starts to cost real money. Like you, I have a DLburner but I just rip the main movie and use Shrink to put it on a DVD-5 blank, since they're so cheap. It also means I avoid the tim-consuming menus, FBI screens and the maddening ads for upcoming DVD releases. If I really want to see the extras once more, I just play the original DVD.

thanks for your help. also I agree 100% that the only material worth copying is the movie itself, NOT trailers and special features. However, even after reauthoring the moe to the bare bones feature and audio, the movie still requires an enormous amount of compression. The final product is pixelated throughout the movie.

Wow, that must be one long movie! Does compression get below 65% for a DVD-5? That's my lower limit. That would make the movie larger than 6.5 gigs.

Well, if the DL thing doesn't work out, you can always split it to 2 SL discs!

BTW - if you don't my asking, what DL media are you using and what's it cost? I heard gret things about Verbatim, but I've only seen them priced at about $5/disc.
