Hello,

I have just purchased two DVD burners: A pioneer DVR-A09 ($70) and a Plextor px-716a ($130). I was wondering which of the two would be better for backing up my DVDs.

I burned one movie with the Pioneer using Dynex (Ritek) 8x DVD+r and DVDD and it worked great!!!

I read that the Plextor is bitsetting capable which is going to increase the compatibility of DVD+R with some older players. Also it seems to have some more features including 8mb buffer.

I plan to be using mostly DVD+R media, because DVD-R freeze on all my DVD players excet a Panasonic and cannot even be read by my PS2.

Also, I would like to know which media is better for each burner both plus and minus. I have heard good things about Taiyo Yuden and that is what I am considering buying.

One last question....How fast should I be burning the backups? I am currently burning at 4x. Would increasing speed increase errors or chance of an error?

Thanks in advance

I have the Plextor 716a and love it. I have backed up several hundred movies with it. Everyone was a quality burn; no coasters. Also, I use Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim as my media. You can't go wrong.

I checked out the both media, and they can be printed on by inkjet. How would I go about doing this with a standard inkjet printer? Is there sone type of tray I can buy or something? I would like to print on the dvds, but not if it means spending 800+ for a printer.

Also, if it is not possible, can I write on the inkjet or thermal discs with a felt tip marker?

Thanks

i dont think there is a tray, but a multimedia printer (photos, discs, with memory card reader) can be had for AUD$249 or cheaper, definitly wouldnt go paying 800 for one

JaguarGod,

If you're in the states you can get an epson R200 which comes with a cd/dvd tray and software for around $80. It's also a good photo and general use printer. It has 6 ink cartridges and I can get a complete set of compatable cartridges (as good as oem) online for $21.80 incuding shipping.

PS if you're just going to write on them don't spend the extra money for injet or thermal printables. Just get the branded ones, verbatums or ty's.
