This is where I am and stuck...
What I have:
- Xbox - either V1.4 or V1.5 (haven?t checked the voltage to determine exact version? will I need to or? since the chip supports both?)
- Xecuter 3 CE
- 160Gig hd
*I haven't yet installed anything to both hardware/software...*
I'm stuck... and need further explanation of:
Dashboard - can you install diffrent versions such as Evolutionx/Evox without the mod chip?
How to back everything before you touch it? If possible?
BIOS - I found bios version x2.06 and flash bios v3.03
*I?m pretty sure I flash the bios after I have the Xecuter 3 CE installed
Basically it comes down to the 'software' side of things... really confusing and so many different versions and ways to do one thing!
so where am I? Do I just need to install my chip? and go from there or?

Sure, I'll help you out :-)
Follow this guide and you'll be fine...
1) Determine your Xbox version using this guide, http://xbox-scene.com/versions_1.php
2) Install your X3 chip using this official guide, http://www.teamxecuter.com/x3/tutorials/x3pin1015.htm
Turn on your Xbox and make sure it runs like it is supposed to. Also, make sure to turn the first two switches on the X3 switch to the right, and leave the last 3 to the left.
3) Get a correct bios for your Xecuter 3 chip here, http://www.x-b-o-x.net/modules/mydownloads/viewcat.php?cid=69
DL the X3 3029 bios file. If you want the newest X3 bios, follow this guide on how to retrieve it using mIRC and FlashFXP, http://webpages.charter.net/modchipzone/xbinshowto.htm
I believe the newest bios is the X3_3294
(Note: make sure to unrar the bios after you get it)
4) Follow this guide on how to flash your X3 chip w/ the bios you recieved above, http://www.teamxecuter.com/flashbios/
5) Download the Evolution X dashboard build 3935 from this site, http://www.x-b-o-x.net/modules/mydownloads/viewcat.php?cid=1 or follow this guide on how to get it through mIRC and FlashFXP, http://webpages.charter.net/modchipzone/xbinshowto.htm
6) Now, the EvoX will be in a .rar folder like the bios was. All you have to extract out of that are these files...
--skins (folder)
--evox.ini
--evoxdash.xbe
7) FTP into your Xbox using this guide, http://webpages.charter.net/modchipzone/ftpingproblem.htm
Now all you have to do is transfer the three files listed above into the root directory of your Xbox's C:
8) Create 2 new folders in your Xbox's E: and name one apps and the other games (This is where you will put your games and apps into)
9) Reboot your Xbox and enjoy!
After you successfully install the chip, then I'll be glad to help you with adding that 160GB hard drive in.

can someone send me X3_3294 and the lastest Evox to my e-mail or place a link were i can download it, because #xbins freaking banned me, so i am kidda stuck were, and i rather have the newer versions then the older one's because they are full of bugs and stuff like that...

xbins banned you, and hopefully AD will soon as well if you don't clean up your post a bit. maybe you'll read the rules and return to post a bit more on topic somewhere and realize that email addies are against the rules.

I found a great site,,sorry I don't know how to make a link of it so you'all gonna have to do some typing....xbox4fun.com...Italian site with really great downloads for bios, softmods and just about every app you ever gonna need (shame all the text is in Italian, looks really interesting forum/magazine, but I just Stoopid Brit and not speak any euro languages)BTW I agree with the sentiments about people who just take what they need and never give anything back..Pain in the ass..lots of 'em in the UK, and rude with it, Also have nero settings for burning bios disk, if you need 'em..pm me

I'm really not into the whole translating thing. It sounds like it would be a pain in the a$$ to translate the entire page every single time. But I guess I should check out that site still though :-)

Yep..x-b-o-x.net is really good, though I have major problems downloading from there..Can't always sign in even tho' Im a member of the forums..Some of the things I got from there were zipped up really strange..(cannot seek on .EXE..etc) Still a good place. far superior to xbins (they are a REAL pain)

Yeah, I suppose your right about xbox net, I have had a few problems there in the past, but overall my experience there has been good. #xbins is a pain to get on, but I guess it only takes an extra few minutes...
P.S. That's a pretty sweet sig. "I asked for water, they gave me gasoline" hahaha

Well i got X3 Config Live on it but now want 2 install a bigger HDD with the origal Xbox dashboard on it, because i still want 2 be able to play Live! on it (got Halo 2 on Live!), and i want the bigger hdd 2 backup Halo1 (guess why...)............................... and some other games i have...

Just a quik piece of advice...
If you go online w/ your upgraded HD installed, you will be banned w/in a couple weeks.

Agreed, not a good idea trying live with a new hdd..There is supposed to be a build to get round it (X3.3286?? config_live) but I haven't heard of anyone having any success with it. It can be had from ..www.xboxtribe.com/downloads/binaries

hey Pimpdawg , Hey i followed some of your advice i just installed an xecuter3ce and just now flashed it with the X3 3029 build bios .i also just threw in a seagate 160 gig hdd. Can i do that ?? and then just download a dashboard or do i need to copy some files from the original hdd?? do i have to pull the new one out? any help or advice is appriciated ./ im learning but i always try to help others when i do learn ...thats what this site is all about :)p.s when i hold down the on switch to go to regular mode i get a code 13?

Yeah, you can throw that Seagate in, but you will need to format it first in the X3 bios under the "Disc" option. You should most definitely copy your files from your original HD to your computer, and then back onto your formatted upgraded HD. But you do not have to do this, it is just nice to get the files on your old HD to your new one. If you do not, the only thing you will not be able to do is play w/ your modchip turned off (you will get errors if you try to), which is ok seeing that the only reason you need to turn your modchip off is to play online, and if you do that with an upgraded HD you will most likely get banned anyway.
The error 13 you get when you hold down the power button means there is something wrong w/ your original dashboard, so you may need to get something like slayers and burn that onto a disc and load the original dashboard on your upgraded HD. Slayers is super easy to use, and you don't have to FTP anything over to your Xbox then.
I'm glad to here that you help others out after you learn new material! If we had more people like you I wouldn't have to work so hard to try and help people out :-) It's addicting though, helping people out, it makes you feel pretty good after you help somebody through something... The old lady doesn't like it much however, haha

PimpDawg, help please ? Well i did everything you said i used FlashFXP and i used evolution build 3935 and transfered over to my cdrive skins (folder) , evox ini. and evoxdask.xbe . ... well heres my problem i get the x3 build 3029 screen and then i have to go to reboot to dash every time i reboot it does not go directly to dash ... any help for me would be highly appriciated ,plus do you have a guide to swap hard drives i put the original back in . do i just save the c directory files via FlashFXP copy and paste them to the c drive in new hard drive is it that easy??? /unjust

haha, everyone seems to have the same problem you do, and they get so scared. All you have to do is go into "X3 Config Live" "Customize X3 bios" and then make sure that "Auto Start X3 Config Live" is disabled.
Some basic info.
If you ever want to get back into your Config Live screen, hold the white button down while your Xbox boots up. Also, if you want to ever go back to your dashboard when playing a game on your upgraded HD, press and hold R+L+Back+Start.
You pretty much have the basics down for upgrading to a new HD.
1) Transfer all of your C: and E: files from your original Xbox HD using FlashFXP
2) Format your new HD in X3's config live under the "disc options"
3) If you have a larger HD than 160GB, make sure to choose "F drive gets 137, and G drive gets the rest" Otherwise, just choose "F drive gets all"
4) Use FlashFXP to go back into your Xbox, and send your C: and E: files into your C: and E: of your upgraded HD.
Thats it!
