Help!-im having problems with my v12 slim ps2.I cant seem to get dvd based games to load(originals)-however cd based games load flawlessly.I read in another post,that it could be a problem with the laser unit and that it might need to be replaced.I`ve used the slim tools (for sensors a+b)& a piece of tape (over sensor c) + swap magic 3.6 to play backups for a couple of months now-but do not have a modchip installed.
When the dvd based original game is put in the ps2-the disc spins for a second,then stops,then spins for a second again....and so on.Eventually this lasts forever & the disc never loads.When I play a game with the lid open-I can see the red dot from the laser lens attempting to read the dvd game as it spins.I am hoping that the laser unit is not faulty.I tried cleaning the lens also-to no avail.
Would anyone be able to tell me what could be wrong with my ps2?Hope that the laser just needs adjusting?any help would be appreciated

Hi smeagle PS2 CDs work OK? Does it play DVD movies? This will tell u if the laser is working 4 DVDs. U r of corse using the DVD SwapDisc not the CD 1. Otherwise it does sound like the laser. Lucky they r very cheap 4 V12. www.divineo.net

Yeah ps2 cds worked-but never tried dvd movies....I disconnected the laser unit,cleaned the laser eye & fiddled with the worm gear(connected to the little motor)-now everything is working as good as new.The problem is fixed now.

Yea that same thing happened to me but I hopely had an old ps2 that the eject/power ribbon ripped and the laser was new so I just had to replace it.

smeagle Im glad U fixed it. Quite often (more with the V12) the laser ribon cable gets out of skew a bit & causes the laser 2 not work. Usually when modding V4 - V12 this will happen at least once.
Sorry 4 the bum steer but I thought U hadnt pulled it apart.

Hey Dix_Fix!Yeah,Im lucky I got it working again....which reminds me-I did in fact check the ribbon cables & their connections before putting the laser unit back in.That could have been the solution.
