Hello. I am trying to rip Akira: Special Edition using dvd2ogm 1.41 beta. After ripping it from my DVD, the vob files total up 4gb, and the ac3 files total up 400mb.

Now, that's presumed that it would be at perfect quality, correct? I attempt to reencode it to a ogm file with ogg as the audio via divx, xvid and 3ivx, and each time I get a filesize of over 7gb. This is WITH some fair compression options activated to, so I'm utterly baffled.

You mean vorbis audio? ogg is just a contaier, like ogm. How many channels and what Q setting?
Filesize = bitrate * length. So what bitrate did you set for the video?

It was set at approximately 1500 I believe. The program had a feature that allowed me to preview the compression levels and the estimated filesize, which came out to 1.5 gigabytes. The audio was 2 channel I believe. As for Q settings, I'm not entirely sure, as I hadn't really MESSED with the audio settings much.

If there's a reason that an estimated filesize would jump from 1.5gb to an actual size after encoding of over 7 gb, I'd love to be enlightened to it.

If this could be processing speed related, I didn't have any programs in the background running at all. My PC isn't the greatest, but I'm sure that an Athlon 2000 with 1024mb of pc2700 ddr ram would suffice for this.

Ok so you set the bitrate to 1500. Now what is the actual bitrate? Seems odd that using 3 different codecs you got the same results.

Never used the app myself though.

Well, I'll try to redo it again tonight, and check any differences between what I set the bitrate to and what it ends up being after it's done.

Also, I'm extremely new to encoding videos and such, so is there any applications that you would suggest? I'm always open to alternatives.
