hello,

I purchased a pc a few months ago with Creatives Audigy 2 ZS, capable of digital sound output with DTS and Dolby Digital. The downside to this is that my speakers are only the Logitech Z5300 5.1 anologue speaker setup. I must admit they have an amazing sound for anologue, but when i watch movies, i wanna be able to use DTS and DD. I was thinking about purchasing a yamaha recever with Dolby and DTS, and connecting the speakers i have into that, then connect my pc to the amp. Will this work?

Also, my speakers at the moment connect into the subby, then the subby connects to the pc. if i were to plug the speakers into a amp, and the subby, will they still work.. they should huh?

You can get a software dvd player and get great sounding DD and DTS surround (5.1) from your computer. I do. I also use the Logitech Z 5300 speakers. The Audigy 2 ZS also lets you play DVD Audio music discs, which also sound great. The player for that is mixed in with the Audigy software.
WinDVD Cinema Pro software dvd player supports 5.1 surround. You can also buy the upgrade for PowerDVD software that supports it. This is a LOT cheaper than a Yamaha receiver.
If you hook up to a Yamaha receiver, you're have to cut the connectors off the ends of the speaker wires, to connect them. I don't think the Yamaha will accept the mini plugs.

so your saying that i can get DD and DTS with my logitech Z 5300?? I know my card is DD and DTS capable, but how can i get these formats, if the logitech Z 5300 dont have an optical input, only the 3 anologue inputs.. the green, yellow and black? tell me how u achieved to get DD and DTS through that plz? that would be so cool!! but i thought u would need a set of speakers that have a digital input..

thanks for the reply

You go into the speaker settings, and set them for 5.1
Then click on the calibrate button. Click "Advanced" button. I used default settings for each speaker. Anywhere you see 5.1 as an option, choose it. I don't remember exactly............ Just look around in the software.
Did you get the dvd-a sampler disc, with your card? My card is the platinum edition, but that shouldn't matter. It just gave me the receiver looking front panel insert.

An important part is the software dvd player, that supports 5.1
Not sure if there's any free ones. You can check the freeware and shareware sites for one.

Good luck! Let us know your progress. I'll look around in mine, and try to refresh my memory.

Ok..........was looking around. In the software, there is a Media Source. Click on Device Controls. Under "Decoder" tab, choose "Use installed decoder".
As I said........Play with it, and get back to us.

No DTS right now. When I tried the DTS sound track, a window popped up saying that this version of WinDVD didn't support DTS. It said to go to web page and upgrade to WinDVD Plus, which does support it. I may do that later.

BTW............
The computer will not automatically go to the DD track, like a big HT system will. You have to go into the menus of the movie, and manually choose it. Still need a dvd player that supports it though.

Sal_va 182............
I downloaded and tried (21 day free trial) the WinDVD Platinum Edition.
The DTS works great with it! First time you use it, you have to set it up for DD and DTS, but it's real easy. I put in the DTS version of The Mask of Zorro, chose the DTS track in the movie's audio setup menu, and it sounded great! I really like these Z5300 speakers!
Enjoy!

Glad it's working for you now. Sorry, don't know of any free ones. If you find any, let me know too? Thanks.

I may be missing something, but I don't know about analog or digital speakers. I know the signal going to them, is either analog or digital, but don't know about speakers being analog or digital.
