...to dvd format and when i get to the last screen before encoding, as seen on this page http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/convert_avi_to_dvd_page_4.cfm , even if i lower the average video bitrate to 2000 (the lowest it lets me go), my file size is 134.14%. my avi file isn't big, i dont know why it wont fit under 4.7 gig size. what can i do to ?
I had the same problem with one of my files. Turns out TPMG is misunderstanding the length of your AVI. In the part of the guide where it's talking about "Filter Settings" and says to leave the checkboxes intact, you can actually select the first checkbox (i think it was the first one...) and set the beginning and end of the video file. If you just click "go to first frame", "set first frame", "go to last frame", and "set last frame", it'll select your entire file, and somehow this seems to force TPMG to figure out the REAL length of your video file. Once you do that, you should have no problem fitting the whole mpeg on to one disc.

Are these programs any faster? I'm looking for a quicker way to burn AVIs to DVD. I'm currently encoding something with TPMGEnc, and it estimates 24 hrs. remaining in the encoding process. And this is on a P4 2 GHz with 504 MB of RAM.
i think you'll find that the audio is the problem...
if you use a varible bitrate to encode DivX audio (mp3)
then you will have to extract it using virtualdubmod.. or something similar....the convert it to an uncompressed pcm..(wav)file then try again....
tmpgenc hint.. look at the audio lenth it may be something crazy..
