I am looking for a new printer. I am intrested in the Epson R200 or R300. But it looks like that is good for printing on dvd's but what about printing lables?
-What are good printers that limit ink use?
-What are some good sites for blank media, ink, cases, photo paper, ect?
-Are there any good printing software programs for mac? (Im having trouble making my dvd covers fit the paper correctly)
Let me know what you do when duplicating a dvd. any suggestions or tips. Thanks.

... The first thing I do when backing up a DVD is to not bother with a label ... They really are more trouble than they're worth ... If you want professional looking labels, you need a CD/DVD printer which start at around $100 or so ... An alternative to the printer is using a LightScribe burner and media .. this is pretty new and is a good way to label your media ...
.. I just use a Sharpie marker since all my discs are created for personal use ..
. An excellent place to buy stuff is:

www.neato.com and www.Shop4Tech.com are good sources for supplies. I must disagree with Catfreak. I use cd labels with I buy from Neato and print with my lexmark printer. I've gotta little label applicator which you can get from the same place and it has worked well for me for a long time. However, Catfreak is right about cd printers and lightscribe. In the long run, the cd printer is a money saver. I plan to get one but it's not a high priority for me.

I agree with Catfreak on this one. A Sharpie marker is my tool of choice for labelling my DVDs. At one time I read somewhere that a misapplied label or one that had the glue dry out and partially peel off could affect the playability of the disk. I believe it said something about throwing the disk off balance. Anyway, that was way back when I first started to burn DVDs and I never put a paper label on one after that. I understand that a lot of people have used them successfully but like Catfreak, anything I burn is for my personal use so as long as I can read what I've written on the disk with my Sharpie, I'm good to go.

If you want your backed up dvd's to look as well as play awsome, I recommend either an epson r200 or r300 printer and either verbatum or taiyo yuden full hub inkjet printable media.
I have the r200 and IMHO is more economical on ink than most photo quality printers. It has 6 ink cartridges and I can get a complete set of compatable cartridges (every bit as good as oem) here http://private.abacus24-7.com/home.aspx? for $21.80 including shipping. It comes with cd/dvd printing software and can be found for around $80.
For the best prices, selection, and quality for hub printable media I recommend rima.com, supermediastore.com, meritline.com, and newegg.com.
Stay away from stick-on labels as they will probably eventually cause you problems.

I'm certainly not worried about being forced off this forum.
I just happened accross these posts while doing a Google search this morning. I know the massive headaches we went through trying to solve the same delemma you guys are talking about.
Since we had finally conquered this phalanx of problems and had most of our members printing flawless CD/DVD's, I simply offered to help.
If it's called advertising by these guys then so be it.
Canon does not give these parts away for free and you will be extremely hard-pressed to even find a European Supplier that will dare sell to the US in fear of loosing their Canon license. I had to ask the assistance of three International Friends, Two International Banks and Absolutely Swear that I would Never reveal the identity of the international Canon Supplier just to place an order, not to mention the VAT (Value Added Tax) Charges and the rediculous shipping involved.
But if you guys want to jump all over my very first post in your precious forum and edit my posts and call me nothing less than a spammer, then by all means block me out.
And please don't worry, I shall not again dilute your OH-so Godly forum with my preseance.
Regards,
Blake

As catfreak stated I'm just enforcing the forum rules. If the rules are unsatisfactory to you then I don't know what to tell you. If I wanted you gone I would've just banned you.
If anyone needs more information from CanonTray then feel free to send him/her a pm - it's the little icon at the top right of every post that looks like a little head with an arrow by it.
