Can no longer play copied dvds on my pc

All of a sudden my pc no longer plays copied dvds, I can play them on a lap top and dvd player. It will read original dvds any hints

Try reinstallng/updating the drivers for your PC's DVD reader device.

will your computer even recognize the burned discs as being present?
Are you able to watch them on your computer and just not rip them?
What kind of media are you using?
What program(s) are you using to rip/burn/encode?
Can your burner (the one that burned the disc originally) read the disc?

I think media or a dieing laser can be the culprit here. You can try blowing some compressed air into the drive and see if that helps any but if you were using cheap media, the strain put on the laser may have caught up to it and it's time for a new drive.

I'm thinking media is the problem here. Download a program called DVD Identifier (http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/) and have it check one of your discs (one that's already been burned to). Then there is a More Info... button you can click on that takes you to an online database which compares media and gives compatibility info as well as reviews. Try that and see what it says, also tell us what it gives for the media ID code.

Also what speed did you burn these at?

I downloaded and ran the progam, when i put a disc in I got a message saying ERROR: UNABLE TO INITIALISE DISC:NOT READY_MEDIUM NOT PRESENT

when I put in an original disc I got the message DISC identification requires DVD or Blu-ray recorder + matching media.

ok, you need to use a burner to identify these discs and they must be DVDR or DVDRW discs (not original) that have already been burned to.

I tried this but it will not recognise the dvd. I have just burnt another dvd to see if it was possible to do so. It worked okay, but would not play on my pc but played okay on lap top and stand alone dvd player

In DVD Identifier make sure you have the correct format disc selected, + or -

I personally think this is a media quality issue. Try Verbatum DataLifePlus with Super AZO Dye or Taiyo Yuden if you buy online.
