basically as the title suggests. i am using nero express with dvd shrink 3.2 but cannot seem to be able to adjust the write speed at all.
just burnt a dvd and got the message (at start of burn ) 'can only write at 2x instead of 2x to the current disc'??..??!!.
i am just using a low quality dvd-r disk which a friend gave me (had probs with them so going to Verbatim DataLifePlus.
just concerned as i have no control over the dvd writer of anything around it.
:-(

I'm not familiar with that burner, but have you tried updating your firmware?
Since your using cheap media you may be best served by burning at 2x.

Try uninstalling and reinstalling both Nero and DVD Shrink...use Nero clean tool, you can find it on the Nero site.

Generally when your write/burn speed is "stuck" at 2X, it is an indication you are in PIO mode and note DMA mode. Go into your device manager, and unintall the primary and secondary controller, turn off computer and let windows reinstall controllers back to DMA mode.

@jim_dandy: not sure if lydanial has stated the "real" problem; leaving us to guess a little more.
In another thread that lydanial posted similary to this, it appears he/she did not know how to set the burn speed in Nero or Shrink. But then it also appears that the burner is stuck at 2X regardless of what is set.
A little clarification would help...

sorry to clarify, it was stuck at 2x and was unchangable at all. it burnt discs all day with no errors but i couldnt adjust it.
luckily since the re-install i seem to have control again so hopefully it will sty. however i will try it tomorrow using DVD Shrink and then burning an already backed up file using just Nero to make sure it doesnt mess up again.
sorry about the messy posts but i thought the other had gone and the search function wouldnt work so i couldnt find it until a reply came and i got a notification.

lydanial: glad you got your problem solved by unintalling and reinstalling your program. Jim_Dandy hit the nail on the head. (BTW, I believe he has ESP; he has been around so long, he can point out a solution the first time)
Happy burning to you...

omg its done it again.. its blanked it out on Nero and is stuck at 2.4x speed and in DVD Shrink it has one choice of maximum and no other speeds.. i dunno whats conflicting at all. but am getting quite upset at it.. (to use a more polite phrase).
i will try a reinstall once more then go through stages 1 by 1 to try and find out whats did it.

used Nero clean up and did remove DVD Shrink. i havent put snrink in yet but it still has no available options for the dvd speed except for 2.4x
i cant believe this as it was fine after that last install.
please please.. more suggestions on connections or where it might have been installed wrongly would be appreciated.

What media are you using? 2.4X leads me to believe burning software is recognizing it as +RW.

verbitim datalife...
i believe i may have sussed it now..
unlike a cd-r which you can choose a write speed at any time, i have found that i have to put in a blank media first and allow it to spin up then it will give me a choice up to 12x. so i have just burnt off a test disc and it was perfect at 6x.
obviously (like most computer problems) it was operator error!!!(well most of my problems are)
thankyou all very much for any input you have put into this thread for me in attempts to help me.
regards
