Started having this prob recently. My dvdrw drive wont recognise cds any more. I have an Emprex ide 1008 which up until last week worked just fine. Now it will burn read and play dvds but I get nothing from CDs it just says no media or disc inserted.
Can anyone help please

I have similar problem with LG DVD-RW 4x. Did you find any solution?

Not sure about the virus angle. Obviously done all the checks, anti virus, adware etc. Also tried another drive put the old one back in had years of service from that drive, but still no joy. Sometimes I hate computers. Good luck with yours.

i am also having the same damn prob. hopefully someone will find the answer soon. wot could it be??? do we have to enable the cd part of the dvd burner or something? please help!!!!

try uninstalling it and restart, plug n play will pick it up as a new device and see if this doesn't help.

Tried it and it didn't work, unfortunately. It reinstalled by itself upon restart, but it still doesn't read cd's. 8( Thanks for the effort though.

I have gone the "uninstall/re-install route" with my HP 630i dvd/cd writer. When I try to make a copy of a disc using Nero it will not recognize that I have a blank disc in the drive. I have been using Memorex and an even cheaper brand Optimus with no problems until recently. I bought some Maxells today and will try them since the DVDs work so well for me. What's funny is that I can copy music from my harddrive onto the other discs but cannot make an exact copy. I'll let you guys/gals know if changing to a (hopefully) better media helps or not. The drive is updated through automatic updates through HP so I feel like the firmware/software is up to date.

i reinstalled the cd part of the software that came with my burner & mine is now working fine. maybe u could try that.
