I'm new to this...a friend of mine gave me a DVD-R of a movie that plays great on my computer, but won't play on my DVD players (A Pioneer DVD343 and a Toshiba SDK510). I was thinking that if I burned it again on a DVD+R, which has been working fine for me, maybe it would work. I tried doing a regular back up using DVD Shrink, checked the 30MM box, still doesn't work...I have the exact same problem...a mostly green, pixelated screen with audio. Again, the DVD+R works on the computer DVD Drive, but not the stand-alone players...I'm thinking since the media works every other time, there must be something about the way the movie is encoded on the disc my friend gave me...I tried decrypting it (even though there is no encryption, and I can convert it to VCD...but the quality sucks)...any ideas out there??

Also, the disc my friend gave me is a Sony, and I'm moving it to Imation....neither has given me problems in the past. I'm also using an NEC ND3530A burner...

And just to make things more interesting, the original disc my friend gave me AND a DVD+R will play in a Norcent dvd player.

So, to recap, media doesn't seem to be the problem, because it plays in my other players fine, with the exception of this movie...it's got to be the way the movie itself is formatted...doesn't it?

Thanks in advance.

There is no reason to run it back through DVD Shrink since it has already been compressed to a dvd5. Try DVD Decrypter read ISO then write ISO. Btw imation is not considered good quality media and will probably cause you trouble down the road.

Hi corny,

Firstly, as stated before, try useing some good, high quality, proven, media. Poor quality media can also cause compatability issues with stand-alone dvd players. Try some verbatum, taiyo yuden, sony, maxell, or fuji (made in japan).

Second, make sure your firmware is upto date.

Lastly, you could booktype the dvd+r media to dvd-rom making them the most compatable format. In order to do this NEC's must be flashed with some modified firmware.
