So I burned some of my dvd's recently - I used the re-author feature for the first time and now it won't let me fast forward or rewind the movie like i always have been able to before when burning full disc backup. For one of them I used dvd shrink and the other was dvdd and it seems that the backup by either one didn't work. Now I did copy both of them to my hdd using dvd shrink...
Any ideas?

what media are you using - download dvdinfopro (free) and run a disc thru it's media info check, pasting the results here

I'll have to do it when i get home, i'm at work now. But I use the one and only Dynex dvd burner and some Dynex dvds. I know that all my dvd's had worked prior to using the dynex dvd's that i just bought and i don't know if its them or if its the fact that I'm selecting some of the files and not all like i used to

no worries.

just had a quick search and it looks like Dynex use a right ole mix of manufacturers -

http://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia.php?dvdmediasearch=dynex&dvdmed...

most of which in that list look to be utter rubbish...
Trouble is when you buy media that uses varying manufacturers is you have to be very careful exactly which ones to pick or you too easily end up with the nasty ones..

I dont understand creaky... What do you mean? Why would I look up manufacturers? I think this is just a procedural error, not a harware error.

yup, you said that was possibly one of two reasons that might be causing the problem. the other was Dynex media and that's what i looked into. That's not exactly a well known brand name so a little searching showed that Dynex have various manufacturers making their media, and some of those manufacturers are makers of the most atrocious media out there.
Hence why it's worthing checking the media codes of the discs to verify if they are decent discs or utter rubbish

in fact i just remembered, i did explain a similar thing to someone last night - snippet from http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/205136 -
Quote:
i really don't wanna seem like a scratched record ( i know i do ), but Sony's love Verbatim. You see i don't have media problems, Period. Which gives me oodles of time to prowl the forums helping with media problems :)
And believe me i have not a lot of money to spend each month, but absolutely refuse to waste money on media that causes so many problems. I did that already and won't make the same mistakes again. I have to look at god knows how many 100s of the disgusting BulkPaq discs with their bright Orange fronts, every time i go looking for a movie to watch (shudders uncontrollably)
the 2nd link in my signature gives more info re crap media, and also the first link..

Ok False alarm people - remind me never to trust my girlfriend about dvd's again lmao. She told me this while i was at work right.. so i come home, pop a dvd in... and it FFs and RWs just fine. And i can skip to scenes. LMAO i'll have to counsel her on how to use the >> and << buttons later i guess rofl. But yeah i'll have to look into the media, i've only got about 20 more dvd's left then i'll have to get new ones anyways... and as far as dvd burners yeah i know i need a new one.. maybe one of these days when i have money i'll go buy one. Got a traffic ticket to pay soon though.
