cool, thanks for the tip scf_au! i will try that tommorow when i get back to the PC i am using to try all these programs out.
and there is a free trial of it!
today i tried River Past Video cleaner... i set it to take my 23... xvid AVI and save it as 25 xvid AVI. the size came out huge, would have to be 3 discs!! LOL so obviously i had the quality settings to high or something. still, i notched off a chunk of the file and burnt it to try in my player. didnt work correctly, although it was "closer". so maybe its more than just fps fighting me, i guess i will figure it out at some point.
but i am excited to try the X Video Converter... it may "default" to the propper settings, for lack of a better term, and make things easy for me!!

I tested before posting my first reply, and tested more before posting this. Here goes:
1) Every time X Video Converter works like a chime.
2) File size does increase significantly from 23 to 25 fps.
So if you're worried about file size, click 'advanced setting' and use the slider to balance between quality and file size.

AVIs don't really have a 'standard', they can be 16fps or 27fps or whatever they are encoded at...

wow! first off let me say thanks to EVERYONE that has been replying on this... its great to see "senior memebers" helping me out.
-i am trying the X Video right now, it will be later tonight before I can try it in my player.
-i am actually in NTSC zone, and the only reason I have "latched on" to the 25FPS is because: I have a DivX/XviD DVD player (new purchase, $49) and it plays only some of the XviDs I feed it. Before installing AVICodec and GSpot the only real common thread I found was: 25fps play fine, others dont. Now, that dosent mean that is the real problem, that was just my "quick take" on it. I have to wait until later tonight when i get home, but i can post the details of some that work and some that dont. (that answers a couple of the questions)
-i will give the change fps and re-encode audio thing a try too, as I am open to trying anything until i figure it out!!!

No. But there's no PAL nor NTSC yet in avis. On the other hand, many programs (e.g Nero, DVDSanta) let you choose between the two before transcoding.
