I have a slimline PS2 with an infinity matrix modchip fitted. Things used to work just fine, and all my backups booted just fine. When booting, it showed version 1.33. I had problems playing PAL games though (my PS2 is NTSC), so I decided to try and upgrade.
I recently downloaded firmware 1.5 from http://www.infinitymod.com I followed to on-screen instructions for upgrading, and everything appeared to work just fine. However, when I rebooted, all I got was a matrix logo, and nothing boots. Pressing reset launches me into the PS2 menu, where backups will of course not boot.
I found the following instructions on the site:
Put Upgrade CD into PS2 and put PS2 into standby. Press "reset button" and keep pressed until blue light turn ON (on V1-V11). (For the V12 press reset button from standby for 2-3 seconds as there is no blue light). Leave "reset button" and Upgrade CD will boot. Follow on-screen instructions to complete the Upgrade procedures.
I'm assuming that V12 is my slimline ps2. So, I put the disc in the drive, close the lid, and hold the reset/power switch for a couple of seconds. Absolutely nothing happens.
(When I hold the power switch for a couple of seconds to power up, pressing reset once makes the matrix screen reappear, but still nothing happens.)
What do I do to get my modchip up and running again? I'd be very thankful if someone can help me!
R U sure you have the "real" matrix infinity? The Matrix infinity SE is a clone. It only works with v1.4. If you update your clone chip with 1.5, it becomes useless and can not be reflashed.
I just opened my PS2, and I indeed have one of the clones. The chip has modbo v.1.1 printed on it. I feel really silly for not doing more research before flashing the chip. I bought the ps2 pre-modded, and going back to the shop is not an option (I've moved).
I checked all the solder points on my ps2 and compared the diagrams of the real matrix and the fake modbo, and it seems that the solder points on the ps2 board are exactly the same, so installation shouldn't be too difficult.
mod-chip.com will sell you a dms4 for $42 plus shipping if you email them and request a price match from consolesource.com. also check out consolesource.com for other chips. As far as i know, matrix infinity and dms4 are the only mod chip out there that does not require a toxic patch to play a back up dvd 9. this is the email i got form mod-chip.com
