Can anyone point me in the right direction. I've been trying to make backups of my movies on DVD into AVI format. I've tried Super DVD Converter, DIV x Converter, and some other software, but keep running into the same problem. The problem is when the software asks me for the VOB files and i select them it does not reconize it as a correct for to convert to AVI. Is there 1 software out there that would let me just select my DVD VIDEO_TS folder and just encode it into AVI format without going through extranious steps??? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

check the guides section. The VOB files should be inside that video_ts folder, not too much extra work.

Hi there RickyRiK welcome to aD,

To address your problem, most of your programs won't pickup a VOB file. You need to have all of your IFO's, BUP's and VOB's in a single folder called VIDEO_TS. It has to be written exactly like that because it is case sensitive. With some programs, they would also like to see a folder called "AUDIO_TS". Again, written like that BUT there's nothing at all in it. It's just an empty folder next to the VOB-filled folder called VIDEO_TS. Have those folders and your files will get "snapped" right up.
Now that we have that little problem fixed, I would like to introduce to an excellent proggy called {b]SuperDVDRipper to take those files and convert them, lickity-split to SVCD's, VCD's, DivX, OR as you were asking for to begin with, a pretty as you please AVI. :D) I know you wanted that all along :)

I have been playing with SuperDVDRipper and I really like it. It is a $$$ program but well worth the money.

For your next question, "Is it hard, Pete ?" Absolutely not. Place the files into the program, open the "Wizard" push the button opposite the type of format you wish to end up with, like AVI and it's all done. Truly a 1-click program which does an excellent job.

Give SuperDVDRipper a try,

Cheers there and enjoy,

Pete

BTW, I know pple like to stay with what they're used to until it becomes boring BUT when that time comes, do give DivX and SVCD's a try. Their quality is very good, you may even decide change :)

ScubaPete, thanks for putting it so easy for me. From your instructions i guess i first need to copy all the files off of the DVD and then put them in a folder called "VIDEO_TS" and within that floder create another folder call AUDIO_TS"? Is that correct? Thanks again for your help.

RiK.
