ok I am new to the dvd ripping thing, I started backing up my movies by using dvd decriptor and then burning them with dvd shrink. It worked just fine using the 10 pack of dvd+r's that I bought at walmart. Once I decided that it was going to work I ordered a 50 pack of Optodisc inkjet printable dvd+r's from ebay (here is the link if it matters) http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=80135&item...

Here is where it gets interesting. Ok I burned about 6 of the dvd's when I got them. Of the 6, 5 work in the comp just fine to play, 1 works on the xbox just fine, one doesnt work in either. What confuses me is that I burned team america 3x (I have burned it on the walmart dvd and it worked great in the xbox) what happens is it starts to play and gets about 3/4 of the way through the previews and then freezes up.


Any idea whats wrong? try and keep it simple cause im not very good at this. If i just need a new dvd player that is great cause I will probably buy one anyway.

you don't need a new dvd player, you need better dvd media. Keep burn speeds at 4x or less and use Verbatum DataLifePlus with Super AZO Dye or Taiyo Yuden if buying online. Those Optodisc are crap.

is there anyway that I can make the optodisc's work? I didnt know that they were crap when i bought 50 of em

Buy some better DVD Media... Plain and simple

Yeah but just not for DVD movie backups.. :-) Like maybe X-mas tree ornimates or some cool looking coasters or you could decorate your wall with them... Sorry but the root of most problems for most people in here is the media they use. Save your self the heart ache and get some quality DVD media... Check out the link in my sig for Newbies for some good info on disks..

what exactly makes a dvd bad? just not well made or is it made to do something different then what im trying to do?

Think of it this way you have two different manufacturers os auto mobiles one is Yugo and the other is Rolls Royce... Which would you say is better? Its the same for media there are good quality media manufacturers out there which use quality inks and dyes and then there are a lot more poor manufactures out there just trying to get your $$.. Just take a little time and do some research on this subject you will find plenty of it here and then make a informed decision..
