I have read and searched through tons of posts. One memeber here said it worked well and removed macrovison in the process. I find this very hard to believe for the $79 price tag.

Well From what I hear it doesn"t have any Macrovision detection so you can capture protected VHS tapes and It uses Hardware Mpeg compression so your CPU isn"t used to do the Compression....

I have no Idea wht the Quality is Like but I"m sure if you did a Little research on the Net you should find some Info....

Cheers

Minion, would I be better of buying the Hauppauge WinTV USB 2.0 Personal Video Recorder for $149? It seems to be a good product according to the people here. Does it tackle the Macrovision problem? I am also intrigued by the ability of it to capture television. Thanks.

If you want to get a Hauppague device make sure it is one that has Hardware Mpeg compression like the PVR-150 or PVR-250 models as I used to own a Hauppague WinTV USB and it was the Worst Device I ever tried but it was a Non-Hardware compression Device....

If you can get a PCI device you would be Much better off as there are Many inherant problems with USB devices..I hear the Hauppague WinTV PVR-150/250/350 PCI devices are supposed to be Pretty good and from what "ReBootJim" says it doesn"t detect Macrovision which I don"t know if the USB models do that or not......

Cheers

You can't beat DVD Adstech xpress for $79.00 for putting vhs tapes onto dvd. There's plenty of other more expensive video capture cards/ tuner cards that can do the job too but the $79.00 Adstech comes with all the hardware and software you need and it's very simple to use. I usually record my tapes to neros video capture folder then burn that file to a dvd. I've never had any quality problems at all, in fact it is very good quality. Unless you just want to spend more money I would buy the Adstech xpress at walmart for $79.00 out the door.

Yes, Circuit City carries the Hauppauge PCI as well. I have seen the Ads DVD Xpress at Walmart also. Oh decisions, decisions.
