I had similar problems with backups made by XCopy.

I would try Shrink and Decrypter ... see if you can make a playable backup. To see if the problem is with DVD Cloner II

I have same problem of copied dvd's working on my pc, but stand alone players saying either emptydisc or disc error.

Note: I had to reinstall my Windows XP and it is since then that I have had this problem. Before this, I had no problem playing dvd copies made with dvd-cloner II. After reinstalling the Windows XP I downloaded again the dvd cloner software and Nero 6 and did the setup. I have been in contact with dvd cloner support, but so far their suggestions still no not work. Their latest instructions were for me to replace the version 2.5 with 2.4 which I did and still no difference. What's interesting is that the copy that Nero 6 made by itself, which was done during the setup prodecure, worked on my stand alone dvd player, and I did not even expect it to work.

keep burn speed 4x or lower and try better media. 95% of the time with problems like this it's a media issue.

i wholeheartedly agree w/ squizzle, people generally will replace their burner, reinstall winxp, even go out and buy a new computer when many problems just lie with poor quality media~ it's such a simple resolution on many occassions with just using better media, but people keep denying this simple fact~ i used to use dvd cloner II in the past, yes, i paid for it too~ boy was i scammed, but have since used shrink/anydvd for 99% of my backups~ and decrpyter for my "backups of backups" :)

i know it sucks to think that you paid GOOD money for a program that is poorly made and in this particular case, have read that it's just an older version of shrink w/ a different "look" to it~ i was duped into buying this a few years ago as well, but have since found MANY other alternatives that will make flawless backups each and every time. please consider the alternatives, as i have completely uninstalled my copy of dvd cloner II and have yet to have ANY problems whatsoever~ :) good luck

i don't want to sound like a total idiot . . . but if i'm reading this thread correctly you are suggesting using some other brand of DVD-R for copying with dvd cloner ii. i'm having the same problem as others -- a copy won't play on the dvd player but will on my PC and laptop. so, okay, i can read and i can see the suggestion to try some different brand (i'm using memorex) but does that really solve the problem? and if so, what brand do you suggest. also, has anyone contacted dvd cloner ii directly?

Not the best of media, try something better like Verbatim, Fuji, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden. And make sure your burners firmware is up to date this can cause problems in playback. You can check at

http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_all.php

Keep you burns speed down to 4x. As was suggested above try another program to see if you have the same problems.

okay, see, in some ways you ARE talking to an idiot. LOL. how do i even find out what my burn software is? it was whatever came on the PC. and how do i adjust burn speed. i understand the concept of 4x . . . . but clueless about how i control it. on the bright side, i CAN chew gum and walk at the same time.

Not hardly, just learning like the rest of us. DL this program, DVDInfoPro, it will tell you the make and model of your burner and the current firmware that is installed, then go back to the rpc firmware page and check for you burner and see if the firmware is current.

http://www.dvdinfopro.com/

As for controlling the burn speed this is usually done in the program you are burning with, unless there is no setting and then the program will default to max, e.g. Intervideo DVDCopy3, which only burns at max. This can cause errors and playback problems. As I do not use DVDCloner I can't say how this program is set up.

okay, downloaded the install for DVDInfoPro, fired up the installation and one of the first things it asked for was my serial number. my serial number for WHAT? life was so much easier when your only option was to make bad copies of VHS tapes . . . . . . . . . LOL

:)

dvd cloner II does not have the option of changing burn speeds..but, that is why MEDIA is even MORE important when you insist on using dvd cloner II.

Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim are always my recommendations...for QUALITY media, i do have quite a few successful burns using dvd cloner II, been awhile since i uninstalled it, but, yes...on good media it will play on my stand alones, on bad media (ie: read as Memorex) they definitely WILL NOT play since #1 memorex=crap, #2 since you can't adjust the burn speed, on crap media, errors like you wouldn't imagine, #3 no adjusting of the size, so it burns all the way to the outer edge of crap media...making it unplayable sometimes.

that's it for now, i have had experience with this software program and while it was good for some time, during the XCopy days, it's lack of features and options for burning make it obsolete now.

Xcopy is a dvd burning/ripping program. It was one of the first programs for this purpose and was developed and sold by 321 studios, which was put out of business by the govt. You can still purchase the program from various sites, but is high priced and there are better programs available, free and cheaper.

DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter are both free apps they will rip/encode and burn your DVD's. They are available at this site along with very good guides on the use of the program.

Bellony..If you are using there 2.5V that is the problem. They have done a rebuid to 2.5832. Email them and they will send the link to you. I use the 2.35V and it works great. I have used it since last fall with no problem until last week when I put in a Plextor drive.

I did have a problem w/ the burned DVDs playing on different DVDs in my house...but after I installed the DVD Cloner II update, I've been having no problems...the DVDs play on ALL DVD players in my house, computer and car.....the only thing is that it takes about an hour to burn one DVD..(30 mins to copy / 30 mins to burn)......

I continue to have problems -- even using the other programs suggested. There is no figuring it out, either. The DVD player will play anything burned with DVD Cloner II 2.4 or earlier, but refuses anything from 2.5 and above. The DVD Cloner folks continue to deny their is any problem with the program and insist there is nothing newer than just a straight 2.5 (they deny the existence of a 2.535 or whatever). I have a Sony DVD player that is about three years old and I have found online that a lot of people tend to get the error message I am getting -- "C13:00:00 The Disc Is Dirty."

I have numerous progs, and at the beginning I used Cloner II and burned with media that only burns at 4x or less. You cannot change burn speed with Cloner 2, but you can make your target be the HD and then use Nero as your burner (you can adjust speed!). I now use predominatly Rebuilder Pro/CCE...Nero Iso burn. (Rebuilder can create ISO image to burn!)I also use Intervideo Dvd Copy 3 Platinum and Clone Dvd 2 (In my opinion far better quality of copy as compared to Dvd Cloner 2.). I use Taiyo Yuden 4x 01, and 8x 02's (when using 8x I use Nero Bruning Rom or Copy to Dvd! Both allow you to change the burn speed. I have found that TY's, Verbs, and Sony's burn great and play well in all my players!

p.s. if you are looking for free...then use Decrypter, SmartRipper, or Dvd Fab Decrypter and then encode with shrink (I prefer having it use the extra enhancements when encoding, as in my situation the quality looks better!) Yet, you can have Rebuilder and use the free encoders (HC by Hanks, QuEnc by Nic, and a great transcoder in ReJig) that is completely free. Rebuilder does an amazing job of creating a high quality back-up that is undiscernable from the original (I'm viewing mine on a 55 inch HDTV 16X9!...Quality counts!)
I still use Dvd Cloner 2, just not as much as Rebuilder, Intervideo, CloneDVD 2!
Great Media + Slow Burns = No Headaches!
